Practitioners

Body:

Haven't posted in a while but wanted to tell everyone how excited I am about my trip to Phoenix to see Shirine Young, one of the new practitioners in Phoenix, Az. Have been doing the posture and exercises in the book for 3 months and am now going to find out what she thinks of my progress. I am also taking my walking poles with the new balance tips I ordered with me to see if they will work for me while I maintain the ww posture. We do not have a WW practitioner in California where I live, so I am flying to Phoenix. All you newbies in AZ, consider yourselves very lucky and do make an appointment with Shirine. I will report back on the experience when I return home.

That is so exciting! Have a wonderful trip and do report back. Do those poles fold up? - Surviving

Hi Surviving, regarding the poles, they come apart --won't fit into my suitcase but have them rubber banded together and will take them on board with me. I remember you telling me how you worked on the posture and the exercises in the book exclusively for at least a year or was it two? and how you reinterated the importance of the posture as the key to success and I just want you to know that I heard you and I am not going to do anything to jeopardize my progress so far so won't use those sticks until Shirine gives me the go ahead. I have booked a 3 hour session with her and have all my questions ready for her. Wed is the big day. Please hold good thoughts for me as I am not a seasoned traveler, and this is a real stretch for me.

I'm not an experienced traveler either, and your post made me think of a traumatic flight where my daughters suitcase got in an argument with someone's hockey sticks on the baggage carousel (all items were totaled!!) Glad you're taking them on board! Can't wait to hear about the trip. Bon voyage and hugs to you!! - Surviving

Just want to wish you a nice and enlightening travel and session :-)

Hello Everyone, am reporting in about my visit to Shirine in Phoenix. Start saving your money gals, it is worth every penny. I was originally saving for trip to see Christine and then found out there was a new practitioner closer and less expensive and I could go all the sooner. A little tip I used to save for the trip was at any holiday my kids would give me a gift, I requested a donation for my 'special' fund. Although seeing Christine is the absolute ideal and may be necessary for some people, I have to tell you all that Shirine is highly qualified and well trained by Christine. Shirine is a Physiotherapist as well as a WW Practitioner so she integrates the two. Being into the WW protocol for 3 months was the perfect timeframe for an evaluation of posture and exercises. Just when you think you know it perfectly, you find out it needs a little tweeking. I had a whole page of questions which she answered; corrected my 'firebreathing' which I was so sure of (ha,ha); taught me nauli; taught me some WW safe exercises for my healing humerus bone; additional exercises for balance and last but not least how to use my walking poles and still maintain perfect WW posture. Since I am using them on flat ground I did not think to ask her about using them for hiking on slanted ground. After the 3 hour session I was hoping I could remember everything and Shirine offered to type it all out and eMail it to me. I have to tell you gals, this is the way to see results really, really quickly. I now truly understand why Surviving60 stresses so emphatically 'posture, posture, posture'. It is the key that unlocks the door to wholeness. You can learn all the exercises and if you don't have the posture right, you're swimming against the current. Thank you most wholeheartedly Christine for providing the WW Practitioner training course and Shirine for taking it and all you beautiful WW who contribute to this forum.

Wow! Love this post, so glad to hear how everything went. I truly appreciate your coming to my defense! I must tell you, that every time someone new talks about "exercises" but doesn't mention posture, I always always always wonder: Are they doing the exercises in posture, or are they doing them in suck-and-tuck mode because they haven't truly grasped the posture yet? I'm afraid of offending people, but let's face it - the elements of posture are not that obvious to a newbie watching the DVD. Throughout her DVD's, Christine reminds us to "maintain all aspects of the posture". Sometimes I wish she'd be a little more specific, and keep calling out those elements! "Belly relaxed! Chest up! Lumbar curve in place!" Good heavens, Jane Fonda used to harp on that tight belly and butt all throughout her videos, don't we need something just as repetitive to counter the damage she and others did?

Anyway thanks for an awesome account. Love you!!!! - Surviving

would love a one-on-one with an expert. I'm sure there's a list somewhere of practitioners....any in chicago area? Despite being a belly breather by virtue of yoga, the relaxed belly takes thought. I hate how I look with it extended but know it's best. I also find it easier to do while walking....belly soft, inhale; belly lifted, exhale. Today I tried out new softer walking shoes by doing the tiptoe run in the house. That too feels great. As does the jiggling. Have trouble standing for length of time and at a family party this weekend, carrying on converstions, standing, while trying to think of the posture.....was exhausting. Grateful for Christine's knowledge, her wonderful yoga DVDs, and everyone here.

Hi nan – there is indeed a list on the "WW Practitioners" tab up above. Closest one to you at present is about 25 miles west of Philly. This is only the second year of the teacher training program, another session starting in 2014 so hopefully the list will continue to grow!! - Surviving
