Exercise Bike

Body:

I have an exercise bike I have not been on since I have had my prolapse(over last 18mths) I am now wondering if using it would be helpful to me or not.I am not sure if I would be making my prolapse worse.Could I get some advice for this.Would love to get back on it!

Hi Honney,
Dear Honney - if you click on the resources tab you will find articles and Christine's movies - there is a video on her riding her bike in WWP. That should give you an idea of whether yours is OK to use, as bikes are all different.
However at this stage, work on getting the posture down to second nature & reading all you can on the fundamentals of this way of life, then learning the exercises on the DVDs as a necessary adjunct to WWP, will help you make informed decisions about different exercise styles etc, later on.
I have decided to concentrate on WW exercises as recently I did some research on different exercise styles & found very little out there which doesn't need adapting. Any teachers I approached about posture had no understanding, and one had no tolerance of any deviation from conventional core strength ( suck & tuck), just as one example. I am nearly 2 years into this work and know enough now to detect most of the exercise no - nos and there are many.
Take your time, and enjoy this journey and welcome onto the train.
Best Wishes,
Aussie Soul Sister

Soul Sis is right, most things aren't a yes or a no, but rather once you understand how to protect your lumbar curvature, you can make adjustments as needed. If your exercise bike is comfortable on your prolapse and if it allows you to ride without rounding your back, and is a form of exercise you enjoy, then it is OK. Recumbent bikes are not okay, because they hold the body at an obtuse angle that destabilizes the organs.

Using a prolapse-friendly bike to get around is one thing....but I agree with Soul Sis, as a form of prolapse-friendly exercise, I wouldn't necessarily cultivate stationery biking unless it is something you are already very into. Get the posture down, do it all day long, combine with lots of conscious posture walking and WW workouts, and when you learn to recognize what's good and what's bad, you can evaluate any move. - Surviving
