New Pessary for Uterine Prolapse expels with BM

Body:

I'm 55 and post-menopausal. I was just fitted with a (ring with support) pessary. I have stage 1 uterine prolapse which causes discomfort when I stand for more than a couple hours, hike, play tennis, or sometimes for no apparent reason other than gravity. My last child (25 yrs ago) weighed 10 pounds so maybe that was a contributing factor.

My cervix descends into the vagina when I bear down even just a tiny bit. Yesterday my gyn fitted me with a pessary which I could not feel once inserted but when I used the bathroom it dislodged into the vagina. I was excited that I finally couldn't feel the bulge and now it seems this won't work for me. :/ Is this a common problem with the pessary?

Thanks in advance for your support. I was in tears yesterday but today I feel more accepting of the situation. Just bummed the pessary wasn't a success.

Hi poetree and welcome,
Have you had a chance to look around this site? Whole woman posture and practices is what helps us the most in managing our prolapses. Some women do use pessaries, but learning the posture is by far better for our prolapse in the long run. I have the more profound uterine prolapse, and have been able to manage it just fine with this work. Check out this site and Christine's teachings! You won't be sorry!

Yes it's true, we have more ex-pessary users here! A pessary can be tricky to fit, and although it may mask the prolapse symptoms, it doesn't address the problem and can actually make things worse over time. The Whole Woman work will give you a way to manage things and lose that fear of the bulge. It's not so bad once you learn what's happening and you realize that you have the power to stabilize it so that you can get on with life, without worries about worsening. You can make virtually any activity prolapse-friendly once you know how.

While you are learning the posture, if you continue to use the pessary, you may find that it doesn't pop out so much because you have learned correct breathing and body position and you have harnessed the forces of gravity to help keep the organs forward in the relaxed lower belly. But really, masking your symptoms kinda gets in the way of this work. Better to feel what is happening - your bulge is an instant feedback mechanism.
