Rectal irritation related to rectal prolapse?

Body:

Hello everyone,

I’m 37 years old, live in Austria (Europe) and had a vaginal birth 4 ½ years ago.
Since my youth, I have been dealing with a rectal mucosal prolapse.
2 ½ years ago, I was also diagnosed with intussusception and a rectocele.

In spite of these conditions, I can empty my bowels quite well and would not go for surgery because of them.

However, since December 2014, I have been suffering from rectal irritation, which is very uncomfortable, especially after defecation.

I had a rectoscopy done in August 2015, which revealed that the supraanal mucosa was slightly irritated. A biopsy was taken, which revealed slight mucosal hyperplasia – and nothing else.

The doctor who did the exam said that the mucosa was okay and nothing could be done to treat the slight irritation. He also said that there was no relation between the irritation and the prolapse.

I consulted two more proctologists who both said the contrary, namely that the rectal irritation was very likely associated with the intussusception and the rectal prolapse.
They also said that the only way to solve the problem was surgery (one of them would probably opt for mesh rectopexy).

Has anyone experienced rectal irritation from rectal prolapse?
How likely is it, in your opinion, that these 2 conditions are related?
Is there any alternative to surgery?

Many thanks in advance for your input and all the best

On the second thread, just scroll down to Christine's name.

Hope that helps some.
