Cystocele

Body:

Hi, I am new to this site. I have never had bleeding with prolapse and it scared me so badly. I am 67 years old and shouldn't be bleeding. I have been to my GYN doctor and a biopsy of the uterus was done and it came back fine. The doctor said it was probably coming from the prolapse, it was like something would burst a little, it would bleed and then stop, no more of anything. Now the doctor wants me to have it fixed, it is below the hymen. My question is has anyone else had bleeding from prolapse and would surgery fix the problem? I have been told that a lot of times after surgery, the prolapse will return. Any comments is appreciated.

Hi Blessedmom and welcome. A cystocele is a bulge in the vaginal wall, caused by the bladder which is on the other side and has moved out of position. I do not believe you should have bleeding from a prolapse unless something is protruding from the vagina and is being irritated by rubbing. You are right to be leery of prolapse "repairs" because the failure rate is extremely high, moreso each time you have to have it repeated. What kind of surgery is being proposed? What is the name of the procedure? -Surviving

I too am new to this forum. I found this site several years ago, before I knew I had these conditions. I could not remember the site nor Christine Kent's name until yesterday while searching for some information on prolaspe. I am glad I came across it again and hope to get some real relief from my condition. I'm at the stage where it is difficult to urinate and have a bowel movement. I need the guidance and support to make it though this. Where do I start? Where are the instructions and directions to improving this condition? I am so grateful for all the hard work that Ms. Kent has dedicated to helping women with these conditions. I read most of the information since I found it again. Please tell me how and where to begin your program. Thanking you in advance.

I started having problems (uterus falling) this past July, but as I never had any problems or knowledge of problems like this, I found out the end of August that my uterus had lost it's place in the 3-team line up (bowels-uterus-bladder). I was fitted with a pessary, which I was lucky with it working right away, THE PROBLEM started 2 days later, with extreme burning, called GYN and she called in Meds to take and a cream to use, Clotrimazole-Betamethasone, for probable yeast infection. 2 days later had to be seen as I was in so much pain, I felt weak. Well I was diagnosed with Chemical-reaction to the Trimo-San, that was used to place the pessary. Therefore, changed meds and cream (Mupirocin) and began a 3 1/2 month recovery. One week ago I got great news from Dr. I had no more raw areas inside or out. Just a small still irritated area at base of vagina. So I was placed back on first cream, I was going to have a great Christmas! WELL 3 days before Christmas the areas are inflamed again, and office closed until today. QUESTION FOR ANYONE with possible experience, what worked for you. Desperate to hear thoughts!

Hi Iwassent2you,
You could start with the whole woman starter bundle which covers all the basics, or for a quick start you could get the whole woman fundamentals which covers the basics of posture and toileting practices.

Hi sulfaprob,
It appears you are finding what many of our ladies have found before you, the troubles of dealing with pessaries.
You can search for more discussions here on the forum; just put some key words in the search box.
You can also give this site a good read and look around; you will find an even better and noninvasive approach with the whole woman posture.

Hi, Aging gracefully. Thank you for responding. I can find these where? I'm trying to manuvere this site. I'm not feeling my best today. This is the first day I'm having some pain because of this condition. My problem started after a doctor did something and I couldn't have a bowel movement for a month. She would not respond to any of my calls or emails. I went to the emergency room at another hospital, but they could not do anything because they had not inserted the pessary. The doctor told me that the reason I had not been able to have a bowel movement probably had something to do with the pessary and that I needed to go back to the doctor who had inserted it. Another doctor finally called me but was not interested in the fact I had not had a bowel movement only if I used the hormone cream that was prescribed. I took everything I could think of to have a bowel movement, but to no avail. They had to take the pessary out and then it happened only then. The doctor wanted to have a discussion about removing my uterus, which I said no to. Now, I'm searching for some relief. This is horrible. I think that now I have rectal intusseception.
I listened to Ms. Coffey interview with Ms. Kent about female doctors today and I agree with her assessment of them. I hope we can talk again. Thank you again. If it seems I rambling excuse me, I really do not feel well.

Hi Iwassent2you,
You can find these in the whole woman store:

https://www.wholewomanstore.com/The-WW-Starter-Bundle_p_34.html

https://www.wholewomanstore.com/Whole-Woman-Fundamentals--Posture-and-To...

There are many other options and combinations in the store too, so give it a good look.

It does sound like you are having a time with that pessary, and hormonal creams are not the answer either, but the whole woman work is safe and noninvasive, and it really helps to relieve those nagging symptoms.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

It will be very good for you to consider the whole woman work which is non invasive and successful way to managing prolapse and yeast infection as well. Please contact christine Kent or any of the whole woman practitioners for a solution to the problem.

I am 62 years old and have had a cystocele for many years. It is level 3. It has not ever bothered me much but in January I decided to try a pessary. I went to my gynecologist and she inserted it and I thought it was great. But after about 3 weeks it slipped a bit and I went back to her. She had told me she was erring on the small side in fitting it and so she tried the next larger one. It felt fine (could not feel it at all) and I really liked it. That is until about 3 weeks later when I woke up in the morning and went to the bathroom and was bleeding. I went back to my gynecologist and she removed the pessary and there was a lot of blood in it. She said we should leave it out for a while, I should use my Estrace cream and I should come back in two weeks for a recheck. So bottom line is the bleeding has continued for about 2.5 months (not a lot but enough to wear a pad all the time) so we have not inserted the pessary. I have had several sonograms and a D and C and my uterus is very thin (I have not had children), and there is no cancer or anything. I went to a urogynecologist who has a fabulous reputation and he wanted to do a Da Vinci Sacrocolpopexy (with mesh) and a Hysterectomy. My gynecologist (who is a woman that I have gone to for over 20 years) thinks he is very aggressive and that I only need an Anterior Repair (no mesh) and a Vaginal Hysterectomy. She is recommending the Hysterectomy because of the bleeding. She said my vaginal tissue is very irritated and that is where she believes I am bleeding from due to the pressure from the cystocele. So I guess my question is, will a Hysterectomy stop the bleeding if it is coming from the vaginal tissue? I am willing to do the Anterior Repair without the mesh but it is the Hysterectomy part that I don't get. Why? If the cystocele is putting pressure on the vagina and irritating it causing it to bleed, then isn't the fix of the cystocele likely to help the bleeding stop? To be clear, it is the bleeding that bothers me and needs to stop. I am bothered by the cystocele only if it is causing the bleeding. I have read a ton about mesh vs. no mesh, and have read a lot about the different procedures. Why do they usually involve a hysterectomy? How can I get this bleeding from the vaginal tissue to stop?

Hi GG and welcome. I would recommend you put the brakes on this whole process and put off considering ANY type of surgery or repairs. A cystocele can be managed just fine with the Whole Woman postureal work.....once you start down the surgical path, you are compromising your body's ability to support your organs safely and naturally. Please watch this:

Our mission here is to keep women off the operating table, to keep their organs intact and preserve the normal functions. You need your uterus. It protects your heart post-menopause, and it is the hub of the wheel of pelvic organ support. It is essential for the health of the hips and spine as you age. Hope you can ditch the dangerous hormones too. You are headed down a very rocky path and I hope you will reconsider. Bleeding is always a concern of course. Let your tissues continue to heal from the pessary experience. Learn how to support and reposition your organs with the WW work. Take a break for awhile from all this poking and prodding by doctors, think about things and do your research. - Surviving

Hi Blessedmom, what surgey is you doc proposing? In the bleeding with prolapse situation, there are chances of prolapse return. Give whole women posture a try surely it might help

Bane,
Truly don't know what you are doing here since you have not introduced yourself. Your posts are not always clear or helpful.
And for the record, prolapse does not cause bleeding. A badly placed pessary would though, and a prolapse that has been sticking out rubbing would also.
