Vaginal Prolapse

Body:

Hi, new here! I have done some reading here and several searches and find nothing about a vaginal prolapse. Is it treated differently then the other pelvic organ prolapses? I went to my primary for a Well Woman and Pap. She was unable to perform the pap as she couldn't even get to my cervix due to what she called a vaginal prolapse. She is sending me to an OBGYN for a pap as she says they have tools that will allow them to safely move things around enough to access my cervix. And of course, address the prolapse. I think I also have a partial rectal prolapse as well.

I am 47, have had 2 vaginal births, 26 and 20yrs ago. My first baby was large and VERY difficult birth resulting in a nurse laying on my stomach to force my stuck baby to be removed with the aide of forceps. She weighed 9lbs 8oz. 6yrs later, I delivered a 12lbs 9oz baby. His delivery was uncomplicated, despite his very large size.

For the last several years, I have to physically apply pressure in order to have a BM, unless I have diarrhea which I actually have very frequently.

I don't have a full diagnosis yet, so obviously no plan for treatment. I want to go into the appointment armed with as much information as possible.

Thank you for the add.

Hi VVPOP. - I believe this is just a matter of confusing terminology. Vaginal vault prolapse usually only occurs after hysterectomy, when the unsupported vagina starts to turn inside out. I believe what you have is rectocele (rectum bulging into the back vaginal wall), possibly cystocele as well (bladder bulging into the front vaginal wall)....this is what is keeping your cervix so high, which is a good thing. If you feel the need to consult a doctor about all this, then at least ask for some more specific terminology regarding the findings. And if you really want to be informed for your appointment, keep reading on this site. Watch this:

Your doctor is not likely to have a "treatment plan" beyond kegels or pessary or surgery. Nothing useful there. - Surviving
