Development of the Whole Woman Posture™

Body:

Hi Everyone,

I think there may be a bit of confusion about what the Alexander Technique is all about and whether it might be substituted for the ww posture.

In my first iteration of ww, which was an entirely different website, I had a download on the posture in which I described how I came to develop it. I won't recount the story here, but suffice it to say that it was built upon influences from several sources and my own sense of what is natural. Pete Egoscue taught me about the four sets of load bearing joints in the body, which must be held over each other for the body to function well; a few brilliant (and ignored) researchers taught me how female pelvic anatomy is actually created in the first place; classical Indian dance taught me about relaxing the belly and allowing the butt its natural curvature; the kriya yoga I had been doing for several years previously taught me to breathe through my nose and slightly tuck my chin while sitting cross-legged on the floor; and through reading his work from the 1930’s I felt I understood what F.M. Alexander was saying about freeing the head, neck, and shoulders. His methodology was all about effortless movement and nothing about moving the pelvic organs back into position.

At the Whole Woman Center™ we’ve further built upon the posture to create a movement program that uses natural forces to both reposition the organs and restructure the musculoskeletal system around them. Again, this is not a cure or a quick fix, but I believe the best we will ever have to stabilize, naturalize, and reinforce the pelvic organ support system. At this point I can only wait for further testimony.

As the one who has recommended the AT, I wanted to chime in that while I have found it helpful, I in no way see it as a substitute for the WW work. Without WW, I may have, in ignorance, turned to surgery for relief. Vital to my own recovery is a daily use of the posture along with the current workout from the First Aid for Prolapse DVD. I also keep reading and reading back posts from the forum, and always glean something new from the time Christine was able to answer almost each and every post. I am anxiously awaiting the release of the new book and WW workout!

Thank you so much for your support, Marie! I want to clarify that I don’t think MY particular program is the end-all and be-all for all time for stabilizing and reversing prolapse. Yet, I do believe there will be many spin-off movement programs (the more the better) that begin with a basic conceptual framework of TRUE female anatomy.
