New Here, sorry if I have dumb questions!

Body:

Hi all!
I'm new here so I probably have some silly questions. I would say my prolapse "happened" 12/2/17...my Dr mentioned it a couple years ago and utterly dismissed it, I had NO idea it could develop into what it has, or get worse! I have stage 2 uterine, cystocele and rectocele. I'm 41 years old and besides my family...high impact exercise/running is my passion/my life!

I came on here to poke around and I requested the "kegels don't work" document....so I'm anxious to read this as I've been doing PT for pelvic floor and yes kegels are included as well as TA work/core etc...

Also, tried a pessary..ring with support..size 3..but what happened is it was shifting posterior when I was working out.....so my bladder was kind of falling ahead of it making THAT worse...I'm beside myself with what to do..... I am supposed to go back to try a different pessary. ....

any words of wisdom?

Thanks!
D

Hi DeLyn and welcome. If you go over to the blog page and do a search on kegels, you will find several articles explaining why they don't work and are actually counter-productive (they pull the organs INTO the vaginal space). I myself, and millions like me, are proof that kegels to nothing to help prolapse. If they did, I think we would have wiped prolapse off the map by now!

For starters you can watch this video:

Traditional "core" exercise focusing on tight abs has been a huge contributing factor to the rise of prolapse over the years. But running and even high-impact exercise can be safe once you have corrected your posture.

Pessaries can be a short-term solution, but they are tricky to fit and they definitely have their drawbacks (they are especially bad for rectocele).

Lots to learn here! We are living well with prolapse and you can too. You can do anything you want. - Surviving
