Exercising with a pessary

Body:

I would like to know if it is safe to use a recumbent exercise bike when wearing a pessary?
I have low back pain and know the recumbent bike is better for your back than an upright one. Also they now have seated elliptical machines. I wonder if those are ok.

Hi namakb - recumbent bikes are very bad for prolapse - you can feel the strain on your abdominal organs. Exertion like that, while holding the body at an obtuse angle with lumbar curve flattened out, is exactly what you don't want to be doing. If you are wearing a pessary, you probably aren't feeling this.....so I would say if you HAVE to do this type of exercise for whatever reason (hard to believe such a position is better for your back, but I can't say) you are probably better off with the pessary supporting your prolapse. The elliptical may be a better bet because you can probably hold WW posture better in that position. It's not what you do, but how. Posture is everything. - Surviving
