New rectocele

Body:

Okay, so I have been doing the posture for about 2 months now, ever since I discovered cystocele. THe problem is during this time, I have been slowly developing an ever-growing rectocele, which I did not have at all when I started. How do I make it stop? Any thoughts? Also, any abdominal isolations or firebreathing that seem to help the cystocele, also seem to make the rectocele worse. Or maybe it's just getting worse on it's own? I'm so disheartened.

Hi Gracemom

I have heard of this happening before on this Forum. I hope the women concerned will surface with their comments. It makes sense to me, unfortunately, that the cystocele could have been holding the rectocele back in place, and now your bladder is well supported, the space is free for the rectocele to come out of hiding. I would think that you have already been carrying the rectocele for some time but it has been asymptomatic. Remember the term 'nature's pessary'? Used to describe the way prolapsed organs act together to block off the exit of any one of them.

You have been only doing this for a couple of months, so don't lose heart. My rectocele was quite significant when I was first aware of it and implemented Wholewoman posture, but over time it has bothered me less and less and only makes an appearance these days when I allow myself to get constipated or dehydrated. I did need to splint quite a bit in the initial months but three years later I rarely have to, maybe less than once a month. I know not everybody has the same success as I have had with rectocele, but the recovery phase can be quite long.

Just be confident that the posture has enabled your cystocele to go back over the pubic bone and has not caused the rectocele to happen, rather it has just uncovered it and made you aware of it, so now you can exercise the care needed to get it back where it belongs, rather than being ignorant of its presence and risking further damage. Give it time. Pay attention to your diet and your body will appreciate the help you are giving it.

Cheers

Louise

...for your thoughtful reply.

I have about a second and a half to respond right now because I have to get my daughter to a playdate, but I promise I will respond more fully later.

However, as Louise said, yes, I, too, suspect the rectocele had been there already and the strengthening of the cystocele gave it more room for you to become aware of it. DO NOT LOSE HEART, GRACEMOM! I came here a year ago with the rectocele being very uncomfortable and symptomatic and that is really unproblematic at this point. (diet, posture, etc...) Recently, the cystocele became far more of a problem though that is much improved than it was 2 or 3 weeks ago -- big change.

Again, I will give you more details later, but i supsect the rectocele was already there and you're just now feeling symptomatic with it. There is much much MUCH room for improvement, as I, myself, continue to discover.

hi gracemom,
i second everything that was said, but just want to give you more hope. once my cystocele started to get better my rectocele was HORRIBLE. huge, uncomfortable, awful, and if i got even slightly constipated it was beyond horrible.
well, not most days i only notice it for a few short whiles. other than that it doesn't bother me. it makes me very mindful of what i eat, as that is definately the key to dealing with it, but that can only be a good thing. so take heart, there is so much healing that can happen with that as well!

i agree that 2 months is very early--it took a good many months to stop this bugging me, but i am getting there--and feel confident that it will get much better again!

shortly after I started the posture (I had a cystocele) I developed a rectocele. my gut feeling was that the rectocele was already developing and its appearance was inevitable. that the cystocele moved out of the way and the rectocele took its place.
good news is that the rectocele is much smaller than it was and gives me no trouble at all.

Thanks for the encouragement.

after I found the rectocele - then I got a cystocele- I freaked out. Now the cystocele is gone- but I still have the rectocele- I know the feeling.
How do you know it is getting bigger?
Maybe it's just in a droopy phase lol.
I know mine feels about the same size all the time- it just comes down and goes back up again.

ok one thing I did was quit eating meat- it really makes lighter bms. and the less weight in my little pouch the better- and it is really good for my prolapse to have formed bms- not loose. I had a stomache bug and my rectocele went nuts.

I don't know- do you feel more pressure from it? or what?
