Smear

Body:

I've just been for my very overdue smear with the nurse and I asked her what she saw down there and if anything looked out of place. Having seen the doctor and gyno about my prolpase and being told I didn't have one, only a very slight sagging on the front wall and nothing to be concerned about, I was interested in what she saw. I KNOW I have prolapse and have all the common symptoms of it and it is when standing it presents itself. Anyway, she did say the walls looked saggy and she had to use a longer speculum to get to my cervix as a) it was high up (this does happen when lying on my back) and b) the front wall was slightly in the way and had to be pushed out of the way to get to my cervix.

I knew these things were already going on but it made me feel horrible.

I asked if it looked bad and she said oh no, some ladies you cannot even get the speculum in as the walls are in the way. She said it was hard to describe but the front wall was slightly protruding and had to pe pushed out of the way to get to the cervix. She then asked if I wore tampons before I had children and I said yes and I still do and they don't fall out.

She then went on to say that I should continue doing Kegels and that we should be doing at least 200 a day! I wish it were that simple. If Kegels were the answer I would do 1000's a day! If you had just a slight sagging can that be reversed?

I don't know why I am posting, it just hits the core when you hear someone tell you your vagina walls are a bit saggy. I wish I could reverse that. I think I will do the workout on the DVD tonight and then my Maya Massage before bed.

I'm waffling.

PS. I have noticed when the gyno examined me and then again today when being examined that my vagina is VERY sensitive and it is really unpleasant when she touched the cervix. Is that normal?

is a wonderful thing. and yes you can reverse your condition.

I did hundreds of kegels a day and all i got for that was a WORSE position (It tires out the muscle and makes sag worse)

I would not wory - There is nothing you can do - Just get in posture and look at your kids and smile - They are worth so very much :-)

I am having some bad days at this moment for the first time in a long time and it is depressing...

We will get there - Dont worry

Yes it does sit high when I am lying down. I haven't examined myself in a couple of weeks so I don't know about standing up but my cervix is usually about 1.5 - 2 inches up and bulges out towards the back resting on my back passage. It has been so low before that I have stuck my finger straight through the middle of my cervix - OUCH!

The front wall has what feels like a half drain pipe which starts right at the opening and goes all the way up and about where you would have a g-spot I have a saggy spot! Again I haven't examined myself lately so do not know if this is worse since I last felt it.

I have noticed that since starting the Maya Massage I have had less pressure down below - it might be a combination of that and the posture. There are still days though when it feels really heavy and like everything is about to drop out and I just don't want to move - those are the days when the dark mood overtakes me. I also get a really annoying feeling around the opening like something is pressing but when I look with a mirror I cannot see any bulge. Its very strange. I do notice when I cough I feel the front wall bulge out.

I really do hope with Christine's work, Maya Massage and kegels I can keep this stablised or even reverse some of it.

Your posting gave me hope. :o)

Thanks.

I have read your posts on too many Kegels and I thought about you when the nurse mentioned the 200 Kegels a day! I am trying to do sets of 10 with 10 second holds with 5 seconds rest in between about 3-4 times a day. i think that's enough as I do not want to tire out the muscle. I definately have improvement on the stress incontinence - in the past if I needed to cough whilst walking I would have to stop and clench but now I can walk and cough at the same time without leakage which is a good thing. I do still get tremendous pressure on my bladder on bad days and I can only assume my uterus is sitting low on those days and it feels horrible and very depressing.

I have stopped examining myself though which is a step forward I think.

I have read your recent posts and I know you can get back to baseline again. You ladies are my inspiration and keep me going on the really bad days and prove that all this works!

Since this latest 'change' I have gone back to - like many other people - checkerama...

I must stop doing that - It is not healthy for the mind and makes you worry more - I really believe that though I dunno if I can stop the checking lolol

My physio at hospital told me that doing 300 a day was madness - I think she told me less is more etc

I can certainly understand the need to keep checking. It takes a lot of will power on my part not to do it anymore as when I feel the lumps and bumps it panics me and then the tears start to flow and I feel I can't cope. So I just try not to do it. I also think it upsets my bits and I can become quite sore and get a lot of irritation down below when I constantly examine myself. I am sure that it is why I had a nasty urine infection a while back.

Everything down there seems very fragile these days - its almost like the slightest touch causes irriation. Very odd.

Hi Anita

You already know more about your prolapses than your doctor ever will! And doctors can be a little like old dogs when it comes to learning new tricks. When you go to the doctor, just don't even raise the subject, because you know how much her answers will upset you. And if she raises the subject you could just tell her the prolapses are not a problem for you now, then she will have to talk about something else. You be in charge - you are paying.

Re the internal exam, next time you need one, take your own lube. It may be a reaction to her lube or even the stuff a reusable speculum is given a final rinse in, especially if she is a bit rough, as some doctors are. It might also have happened at a time of the month when you are a bit dry and the tissues are a bit sensitive. I find that if I have had sex within the previous 12 hours my vaginal tissues are all still plumped up and juicy so there is less trauma to the tissues. I always shower before going to the doctor but just give my vulva an outside rinse and put on clean and respectable knickers before walking out the door. If I smell nice from a shower the doctor is not going to be too worried about a bit of body fluids as she will be wearing gloves anyway. And if she is worried, that is her problem, not mine. Aren't I rude? It is all about self respect, while respecting her practices.

Cheers

Louise

I know - It is an impulse we hafta try to not act on lolol

Its only cos I have this kinda weird feeling there - dryish or whatever - Maybe cos of constant checking like you say...

Men get it so easy in comparason to us women methinks

Oh I have definately decided that if we are reincarnated I am coming back as a man! No periods, no giving birth (although some women find this a wonderful experience), and a pelvic floor that stays intact!

Men can get prolapsed bowels I think (i think)

Definitely less hassle being a man BUT being a mother they can never do
