Has anyone in the UK had successful surgery for a uterine prolapse and had another child?

Body:

I have been diagnosed recently with a uterine prolapse. I am 33(just) and only have one child who is 3. I have been informed that if i wish to have more children(which i do) then i should go for physio and wear a pessary to relieve the symptoms. The only other choice i was offered was a Hysterectomy. I have read up about surgical procedures available but have been informed by a doctor that if i mention i want children in the future then no one will operate on me as it will undo the surgery. I feel very confused about available treament and dont know who to talk to about it. I have done all i can to help matters by changing my diet, taking up swimming and regular walking and trying to think positively. I am due to return to work next week after having a few weeks off and i am concerned that the symptoms and discomfort are going to return again.

hi angel
I'm not in the UK, have not had surgery, but I did have a baby after finding my prolapses.
I had a cystocele and then developed a rectocele and I'm pretty sure my uterus is alot lower than it 'should' be. I found this site and after a year and a bit of postural work and exercise, was able to stabilize the descent and felt confident that my body could handle another pg and delivery. and guess what? I'm no worse off now than I was before this last baby.

so my advice to you is this: try this WW program and see if you can't stabilize your prolapse too. once you go for surgery, there is no turning back. its a done deal. but you can try this for say, 6 mo? a year? and if you see no improvement, you can always decide to look into surgery then.

I will tell you a story (As short as i can)

When I was 20 and a month or two I had my first son (forceps) That is when my Prolapse started. It felt afterwards like a brick was gonna fall out of me. I had my second son 15mths later and that feeling went away. I had my daughter a longggggggg time after that and I think she was about two or so when I noticed and found out what Prolapse was.

I have seen a Gynae in BUPA and in hospital and even my GP said 'We dont do surgery for this anymore' She rammed a pessary into me and then two more prolapses came along to join the crew.

Surgery will only make things worse. They sew this to that and that to this and make a mess.

The posture here DOES help!! It is your most important tool for living with this - Surgery will only leave you with surgery and more surgery - This way you are in control. Pessaries they change every 6mths and the one I had (stayed in 18hrs then I removed it as it moved and i could not go potty (lol)) I avoid pessaries now like the plague also. If you get one you hafta understand they will increase the size over the years as the innards will stretch. You are young - You don't wanna be tied to your dr for the rest of your life do you? But also- If this is the only thing that makes life liveable - Then it is the better option than surgery..

Basically it is an understanding of prolapse (Which the book gives you all you need of) And to understand how your body works etc.

Please do not assume surgery will 'heal' - It really won't - Cos if it did we would all be clamouring for it :-)

Wekcine abd I hope that you will find your way through this as we are

Look into the eyes - They hold the key...

Thanks for the advice, i'm glad to hear that you can go on to have more children even with a prolapse.
Take care.
