Ups and Downs

Body:

Is it typical for those of us with POP to have days or weeks of improved symptoms and then to regress? I seemed to be getting so much better, but today my cystocele gave me little "leaks" four times during the day. I wonder if even decaffeinated coffee irritates the bladder because of the acidic pH. Other than that, I wonder if I will ever get over this incredible frustration!

Hi Saddleup

Yes, occasional regression does seem to be part of the story. It may be something you are eating or drinking, or it may be related to your menstrual cycle, or a bit of over-exertion, or a spot of constipation. As you go on you will probably find that it gets better after a couple of days every time, and you get setbacks less frequently. You begin to trust your body to recover its previous position. Being able to trust your body again is a wonderful feeling. It is like regaining an old friendship.

I still get the occasional little leak, and my body is doing weird menopause things, so it is all in a state of transition. I never know what is going to happen next, but I am finding I can forgive it, roll with the punches, and trust the old body to get its act together in its own good time (at the same time being careful about my posture, drinking enough water, eating well, wearing comfy clothes and thinking before using my body badly.)

Cheers

Louise

Thanks for the encouraging words, Louise. I don't have a menstrual cycle going on any more, so we can count that out as the perpetrator. I didn't strain anything or do any unusual exercise. It was just a bad POP day. I hope today is better. I drank decaff tea this morning instead of decaff coffee. It seems easier on the system.

I try to not drink too much water during the day because I don't want to put additional pressure on the bladder. Occasionally this seems to have backfired, as I found myself having difficult bowel movements (not what we want in this situation). So I've been eating granola made with oats, flax seed, and pumpkin seed, with whatever fruit I can get, and my usual soymilk. That and walking a couple of miles seems to help.

Flowers are blooming, weeds are growing like mad due to lots of rain, and I enjoy getting dirty and sweaty in the garden. Maybe what I really enjoy is the satisfaction of seeing plants grow, and the nice shower I can take when I'm done. Have a great day.

soon there will be more good days than bad. and then you will just have an occasional bad day and you forget you even have a prolapse. Not sure about the leaking. Have you read any of the posts about the prolapse putting pressure on the urethra and kinking it a little and then as it lifts off you are more leaky? Just a thought-
Go for drinking water- It is so good for your body- wear skirts and no unders- and what is a little leaking anyhow.
