Accupressure

I was reading a short article this morning and thought these might help relieve symptoms for some of us.

For all use the fleshy pad of thumb or fingertips and apply constant steady pressure in a rhythmic circular motion to the area for 15 to 30 seconds. Repeat using ame point on other side of body.

This one works very well for me
Unclog a stuffy nose... Press the groove to the side of each nostril.

Shut off cravings ... Press the front of your ear.

Migraines ... Press your temples.

Back Pain...Press the crease behind your knee.
This one has worked for me too.

Nausea... Press your inner arm two inches below wrist.

Blues...Press the webbing between thumb and fore finger.
I've used this one with good results.

Lots of fruit on plants....just waiting to taste them.

There is another one which stops the bladder contracting when you just gotta go ... now! eg I just slouched on the sofa watching movies until after midnight then had to go out and put the dogs away and feed them. I came back in the house again, and suddenly needed a pee. What is it about coming into the house? Very Freudian. Usually happens when I come in from the garage after shopping, or finishing a job which needed a shove or a bit of forcing. While I was having a pee I realised that both my rectocele and my cervix were really low. Gone now though, five minutes later.

Back to the pressure point. You press quite hard between the nostrils, upwards, on the horizontal bit of cartilage, right in there where it joins the bone under the nose, and the feeling of urgency usually dissipates in a few seconds. It works. This one was told to me by our local continence clinic nurse.

It's been a long time since I've been on, life has been hectic since I moved back to Ireland and started my acupuncture practice. And I hardly ever give a thought to my (bladder 'cele!), which still amazes me as it was very traumatic to me at the time.

Anyway, i'll be posting elsewhere about a new thing I learned and with an enquiry about homeopathy, but in the meantime I just wanted to comment on the above acupressure tips.

One of those points *isn't to be used with people with prolapses and the another not to be used for pregnant people.

The point behind the knee brings down energy very strongly (as well as helping backache), that's why other points are better for us for backache.

Another point to avoid with prolapse's for acupressure or in acupuncture is that top of the trap.s muscles, basically a little down from where the neck meets the shoulder. A place that often gets really tight.

This point is definitely contraindicated in prolapse.So if you go in for backache or shoulder tightness to an acupuncturist tell them about your prolapse for sure but in case they didn't really register these points as being ones to avoid in prolapse tell them you've been told it's not advisable to needle there.

I know it happened to me that i had a tight shoulder after a flight and when in to some local lady (it was about half way through my studies). She was about to needle on the shoulder top and I had to tell her not to use it.( I had initially waited just to test and see whether they would go to use it!)

The point on the hand is wonderful for all sort's of things, headaches, naseau, etc. but not to be used by pregnant women.

reading this, all I can think is OMG

I routinely have dh apply serious pressure to my trigger points above my traps. feels soooooo good to my shoulders.
don't know if its the *same* point or not, but I will avoid it in the future
I have another trigger point he does right under the lateral edge of the scapula. is that one ok? I hope so, it frees my shoulder girdle like nothing else can.

I mentioned that dh applies deep pressure to a trigger point in the area described as an accupressure point contraindicated in those with prolapse. I wrote I don't know if its the *same* point. is that what didn't come across accurately?
couldn't find any other reference to AME point (thought maybe it looked like 'same point') in this thread

try not to worry to much if you've had a masseuse uses the point's before granolamom. You'll know now for in future and the contraindication remember is for acupuncture which has a far stronger effect. It's just better to avoid it in acupressure too.

And yeah the point I'm referring to is the tight one at the traps, the fleshy horizontal shelf it feels good to rub between the neck and shoulder, (not the scapula area).

There really are only a few main ones I'd avoid, that one I just described, one behind the knee (used for backache) and personally I like to avoid one just behind the outer ankle, thought it's not contraindicated for us (only for pregnant women).

There are alternative points for us for backache and shoulders etc.. just that those are probably some of the first ones that come to mind to acupuncturists in many cases of those problems.

So mostly just keep in mind, if going to an acupuncturists, tell 'em you have a prolapse, even if popping in for something apparently unrelated, (like your shoulder) and ask them to avoid needling the trap's and the back of your knee.

And if you'r doing acupressure, or going for a massage, just skip those areas or ask your masseuse to skip them.
