How soon can I start the exercises PP?

Body:

Hi everyone,

I just received the DVD this week and am eager to get started on the exercises. I just had my baby 2 weeks ago, and have been feeling very good. She (touch wood) has been a good little sleeper and very content, so I've been able to get my rest. I really am (dare I say it) bored, and feeling energetic. Should I start the beginner workout now?

I would not start any exercise program until I quit bleeding. You feel great now because you are letting your body heal. Where you placenta separated from your uterus is a big wound- the uterus clamps down and closes over this wound quickly. If you rest and respect this healing time it will heal beautifully. If you don't it will reopen and bleed again. This can go on well over 6 weeks if pushed. It can end much sooner if you are a fast healer and you take it easy. If your baby does not require constant walking and bouncing you may heal very quickly. I say for the first few months simply walk in the posture- try to help your spine return to it's natural shape- stretch your hamstrings well- and if you are bored- read a good book-
This time will pass quickly- in a few years it will seem like a blink of an eye.
Some of motherhood is slowing down and smelling the roses with your little one. There is plenty of time to return to your former exercise level.

I wouldn't start anything more than posture and some little bits of walking until lochia has completely stopped. and even then, go realllly slowly. do less than you think you can and work up from there.

can I say I'm jealous though? none of my babies were ever good sleepers or content. ah, but I love 'em all the same. just can't relate to feeling rested and bored at 2 weeks pp.
enjoy it!!

Thanks alemama and granolamom.

I'll take your wise advice. I"m doing the posture as much as possible, and by the end of the day, my body is pretty tired. I guess that is a sign that I should wait!

I'm not entirely bored, just soooo surprised by the difference between this little one and my son. My son only catnapped and needed to be on me 24-7, this little one sleeps well anywhere (so far), and will go 3 hours between feeds! I'm counting my blessings because I know how challenging it can be with a fussy baby. Honestly my 4 year old is more demanding than she is!

Thanks again.

the baby might be sleeping now but just give it some time ....my 2 sons always slept good in the beginning but after the first month they woke up and wanted to be constantly entertained, rocked, fed.....now its such a relief that i can lay them both down for their naps without having to rock or walk them around.....my 4 1/2 month old is still getting up every 3 hours at night but i just put him in the bed with me to nurse. Those first few weeks were so aweseome for me except for the bleeding sore nipples of course. I cringe thinking back on that part
