Hormones and Cystocele

Body:

I am sure Christine has talked about this subject before, but I am new to the site and still trying to find my way around. I am 54, never had surgery and dealing with a cystocele for several months. I did it to myself, squatting too much, lifting heavy grandkids and very poor posture. I have not had a period for 9 months, but the last two weeks my breasts have been very swollen and sore, and my cystocele seems to be worse too. I have not done any lifting or straining and I am working on the exercises and posture. Could a shift in my hormones cause the cystocele to get worse? I am resting alot, trying to take good care of myself but I am discouraged that the bulge is getting bigger instead of smaller. I am having an increase in irritation too. I am not on any hormone therapy, never have been. I would appreciate any comments, thank you for letting me join your community. Connie

Hi Connie,

Welcome to wholewoman and you are the perfect candidate for this work! Not to worry about the coming period. It may be a “doosie” (heavy, uncomfortable) but perhaps your last one! My last one was preceded by weeks of very sore breasts and finally came in buckets. Do not fear about the worsening cystocele - prolapse is always more pronounced at this time.

All I can offer is that it is a slow road back, but by this time next year you should be feeling grand - how wonderful that you are a healthy woman whose well-being has not been compromised by surgery! I would just take it easy until the storm passes and then begin the firebreathing/nauli and any of the other exercises you are interested in. The beginning workout and the first part of the advanced program in the dvd are really nice and often the only formal exercise I do.

Wishing you well,

Christine

Hi Connie, sorry to hear about the sore breasts, I suffered a lot from this years ago and still remember how painful it can be. I have been told that taking evening primrose oil can help with this. Unfortunately, I heard about this too late to make use of it, but the woman who told me was convinced it helped a lot, and if I still had this problem I would certainly give it a go. Good luck!

Hi Connie

I am in the midst of the same perimenopause as you. Have had 6 periods in the last 13 months. Didn't have breast symptoms for a few months, but am now getting them again, starting around ovulation time. Yes, my cystocele plays up too, until the period is happening, then everything goes quiet again. This used to be my pattern every month inthe second half. I have even had a return of that ole familiar 'milk letting down' sensation occasionally, as well. I am very surprised to look down and see no wet patches, which is reassuring. <:-d>

It is really strange how each cycle that passes I get different symptoms coming and going, but not all at once, thank goodness.

Whatever it is, it will pass.

Louise

Thank you all for your responses. I am relieved to know that my changing hormones can play a part in the postion of my prolapse. I was surprised to have the sore breasts again after so many months. I thought I was done, maybe not! The DVD is wonderful, I am working on the exercise and fire breathing. I was a ballet student for many years,(in my younger, thinner days!)so many of the moves feel very good. I am one of the many laid-off due to the ecomony so I have plenty of time to work on my new lifestyle. I hope to have the new posture down pat before entering the job force again so I don't have to think about it, it will come natural. Thank you again, it is so comforting to know I am not alone on this road. Connie

Back in the old senior center,ai never would have thought. As I have been on site this week with my own issues, I thoufgt I would jump in on this one.I don't think it is popular here but here goes.As I posted on pelvic site,I have things to learn, and hopefully typeing will be one of them,ADD humor.I would invite thinking about ONLY estriol cream va.,not available in US except though compounding phar.with script.Natural bioidentical progesterone is also something to look into.Used on other body parts. This is not PG horse urin. Dr. Lee with his many books" what M.D.s don't tell us about menopause," and others. He no longer living was also an M.D.The FDA is having fits as more in fo is reaching women.I'm not trying to diswade anyone from things on this site and wish I had a computer to stay more in touch.Had I not explored beyound the usual I would not have found this great site.Aside from the crap I have at this point with the POP,pain ,burning, etc.,it has made a difference in many ways.I want to be open to deside, thats my opinion. Thanks,Pat
