Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday Dear Mae, Happy 'Birth' Day to you. It's only 10.50pm on the 5th. I can't stay awake a moment longer.

ZZZZZZzzzzzzz ...

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

congratulations!

Aww..thank you all so much for the Happy Birthday wishes. It's no wonder I love you guys! You always come through for me and my birthday was no exception!

Very strange birthday this year. I was hoping dd was going into labor yesterday as she was having some pretty intense pains all day. I was secretly hoping (well, not really much of a secret if the truth be told) that the baby would arrive today! In the middle of numerous phone calls back and forth with my dd yesterday I got a call from my dh, who tells me he is coming home from the office because he is deathly ill..chills, shaking, fatigue..all this came on so fast it was unreal. Swine flu crossed my frantic mind (several cases documented here in Florida) until he mentioned he was having a difficult time urinating. Since he had a fever and the problem urinating, and no other signs of the flu, I felt pretty sure it was a UTI.

Our dd's "labor" pains stopped (no birthday grandbaby for me unless she gets very busy in the next 5 hours!)and I spent the better part of today nursing a poor sick husband and getting him to the doctor, then hospital for urine tests. The doctor felt as confident as I did that it was a UTI and put him on antibiotics to clear up the infection, which he suspected may have come from a kidney stone. I learned that is how men typically get UTI's. So, as I write this, dh is in bed with a raging fever and we keep checking to see if he passes a kidney stone, which, BTW, he has had before, but never with fever and infection.

So, that was my crazy birthday! It made my day though to see all the good wishes from my WW friends! Thanks, and keep your fingers crossed about that grandbaby...five hours left..it's probably been done before! lol!

I am going to heat up a Smart Ones Santa Fe Rice and Beans dinner in honor of my Cinco de Mayo birthday, pour a glass of wine ( just one though in case I get "the" call) and count my blessings! Today didn't go as planned (Spa Days are over rated anyway..lol), but, of course, that isn't what it's all about. I have soo much to be thankful for and my ever faithful WholeWoman friends (new, old and yet to be) are right up there on my blessings list!

Only fitting that I steal Louise's sign off today!

Cheers!

Good morning Mae

I'm back, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, as we say in Oz, after a good sleep.

There is a diet which my naturopath has prescribed successfully for gallstones and kidney stones. It is pretty limiting for a while, but I have done it as a kidney flush. It is not impossible.

It is something about almonds and brown rice and veges for a while. It literally breaks down the calcification, dissolving the stones so they can be flushed out. Somebody else new had a kidney stone the other day too. I hope she reads this. I may be able to get a copy of the diet if you want it, but it would be better to do it through a naturopath.

Hope DH is feeling a little better. DD is certainly on the way, with all this weird stuff happening. Chill. What went in must come out.

Cheers

Louise

Thanks Louise!

I would so appreciate a copy of that remedy for flushing out stones, or a lead as to where I could find it. Funny thing is, today someone, God only knows who..I am so tired from nursing a sick, "take care of me" husband, that I can't remember, told me she did a "flash" diet thing for her gallstones that was wonderful and that it might work for kidney stones as well. She has an accent and I now realize she must have been saying flush!!

My DH woke up today feeling great after just one dose of antibiotics. His temp was normal this a.m. and he informed me that he sweated it out last night (he is in a room on the opposite side of our house) and he was well. I convinced him to stay home and rest for the day and then I went out to do some errands. When I got back he was under multiple covers and had a temp if 102.9. So much for being over it.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Passing this stone, naturally and quickly would be very nice! How am I going to leave him if DD goes into labor, which could happen at any moment?? Yikes! Never a dull moment around here!

~Mae

hang in there, mae
I don't know anything about diets or remedies for flushing out stones, but I'd think drinking loads of water is probably a good place to start. and then I'd try a google search.

I hope your dh is back to himself quickly, and before your dd goes into labor. but just incase not, can you hire a doula for dh? (just kidding..)

and remember to take care of yourself too

Watch this space, Mae. I have just emailed my naturopath to ask for details again. There were general food combinations for flushing the kidneys that I found on the Web, but nothing that was specific enough to be able to use with any confidence.

Cheers

Louise

Thanks G-mom and Louise! My DH is still quite ill. Four days now of fever, being on the antibiotics for three of those days. The stone isn't bothering him much, just burns a little when he urinates, but that's probably the infection. I am beginning to wonder if it isn't something other than a UTI. Not sure what, but I would have thought that the antibiotics would have kicked in by now if it was that.

Going to call the doctor today to see if they got the results of the urinalysis test. I find it strange that a kidney stone could cause this kind of infection that is so hard to clear up. But, then again, I'm not the doctor!

I Googled Diet for kidney stones but didn't find anything about what to eat to pass them. Just what to eat to avoid getting them.

DD is still hanging in there. Hope she does until we get DH under control, although she is so anxious to have this baby I feel guilty hoping she holds out!

Looking forward to brighter days ahead!

~Mae

when I had my uti, which traveled to my kidney, I was on major heavy duty antibiotics (3 injections over three days as well as oral for 2 weeks). I was really really sick (like high fevers, unable to do anything but lay on the couch) for about a week. wasn't back to myself for about a month. my blood counts were improving daily, so the dr's felt I was on the road to recovery and that they had given me the correct abx (they were guessing a bit because I was so sick they didn't want to wait for all the cultures to come back, and were somewhat limited due to the fact that I was bf).
so these things can take a while.

{{{{hugs}}}}

Thanks G-mom,

I am concerned that maybe his has reached his kidneys as the antibiotics don't seem to be kicking in. The doctor's office said the results of the urinalysis test had not come in yet. I sure hope they get them tomorrow or it will be Monday before we know. DD could very well go into labor before then. I would be very reluctant to be in the birthing room, as badly as I want to, without knowing for sure what I have been exposed to.

My goodness..life can sure get complicated fast, can't it??

Thanks for the info.

Mae

ask your dh's dr, or your dd's obgyn.
I thought they were like ear infections, not in and of themselves contagious.
I'd hate for you to miss that birth. mask and glove?
keep us posted

Hi G-mom,

No, I do not believe that UTI's are contagious from all that I have researched. However, I am not postive (and won't be until that darn test comes back) that an UTI is what my DH has. If that's it, I am good to go. My concern is that it may be something else, especially since the antibiotics aren't kicking in. I will tell them, at the hospital, what is going on, if and when she goes into labor and if we haven't gotten results. I will ask about wearing a mask and gloves. My guess though, to be on the safe side, they'll want me out of there, which is fine, if I need to be..but so very sad if I don't!

Wish me luck and my DD a healthy and safe birth! We are soo close now!
