Questions

Body:

My first question is about pain I have had deep vaginal pain for a while now which I have mentioned in a previous post. On Friday I went to see a different gynae who was very nice and seemed concerned that when she examined me where my pain inside was it was my womb. She has done a swab to see if I have some sort of infection and I'm waiting for the results. The weird thing is if I lie down on my front the pain goes away but over the weekend it has been quite bad and changes from a deep throbbing pain to a sharp burning pain, I have experienced this pain after having bowel movements sex and urinating but not all the time. Last night I woke up at three am needing a bowel movement. Afterwards I was in the most horrific pain, deep inside pain and then pain all down my buttocks and around my tail bone. I lay on my tummy and then it stopped and I went back to sleep. This is very weird and concerning me slightly does anyone have any ideas or has anyone experienced anything similar? I have been checking my temperature and don't seem to have one.

2nd question?
Wind - my vaginal wind problem is awful. I can firebreath and nauli and when i firebreath or do any kind of downward dog yoga pose or pelvic tilts then I suck in an enormous amount of air. Given that I used to be a yoga teacher and want to get back to yoga teaching but can't use a tampon or sea sponge because they are too painful does anyone have any suggestions? Do you think this will go away or diminish to the point where I could teach again? I have been doing this work for about six weeks now and I do I think understand the principals and the posture. I have been working with a physio on this too so I don't think that I am far off WW posture but nothing seems to be changing and if anything I feel like everything is getting worse.

Anal wind. Also I have terrible flatulence all of a sudden, is this because my bowels are not functioning normally? I have tried not to over fibre and over eat fruit but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Could it be the pysillium?

3rd question.
Standing posture. Is it better to walk in WW posture and then when standing use second position? I'm thinking about supermarkets, washing dishes, cooking etc. Although to be honest I'm struggling with all these things because my pain is really limiting me and I had to spend most of the weekend lying down on my front.

Any advice enlightenment would be really useful. I have been feeling very down all weekend and all I want to be able to do is enjoy time with my family and not be consumed by the symptoms of my prolapses which are really stopping me from living a fulfilled life right now. How long can it take to see any kind of progress. I really want to believe I can heal my body but I feel I need a glimmer of hope to keep me going.

Hi H

You have been with us for a few weeks now. Do you think the pain you are having now is the same as it was when you first registered, or is it different? Same place? Same type? How is the pubic symphysis pain going?

Are any of the WW exercises causing you pain? If so, I would stop doing exercises that aggravate your body. That includes any non-WW exercises as well.

I am really glad you are under the care of a doctor, because she is at least able to examine you first hand, and systematically eliminate serious problems, as if serious pain isn't a serious problem, eh?

Needing a bowel movement in the middle of the night is indeed weird, and points to some bowel involvement, as you had pain straight afterwards. However, needing a poo in the middle of the night isn't the end of the world. I have had that, and thought it was pretty odd, but nothing else happened. It may be a red herring. The fact that it then spread down your buttocks, and then it went away when you lay on your tummy tells me that it is something about the way your structures and organs are physically organised when you have the pain, compared to when you do not have the pain. Lying on your tummy will reinforce the lumbar curve and flop all your organs forward. That may be the reason why you have no pain on your tummy. What happens painwise if you kneel on all fours?

It definitely sounds like something is pressing on or stretching a nerve, or a group of nerves somewhere. It may not even be in the pelvic area. Pudendal nerve entrapment can cause pain involving all the pelvic organs because it divides after leaving the sacrum. If it is stretched as a result of pelvic surgery, mainly hysterectomy, it can cause a lot of pain in all the organs, but your only surgery was a CS for your second baby, which may have resulted in some fascia damage around the uterus, but I can't see how your bowel could be affected, unless there is some scar tissue from the CS causing problems. I would have thought it would become apparent before now. If you want to check out pudendal nerve entrapment go to www.tipna.org.

Have you had any chiropractic treatment or other body work apart from physio? Scoliosis can cause pain, with uneven pressure on the skeleton, uneven pulls on muscles, and squashed nerves, adn referred pain.

It is hard to work out what is going on because there seem to be a number of factors at work. If you are going to make changes, try and only do one change at a time, or your detective work may give you false results.

The trouble with pelvic pain is that surgery is often recommended as a treatment of last resort, because it is darned difficult to pin down to a particular cause. Removing an organ, or cutting a nerve to stop the pain often doesn't work, because the presumed cause was not correct. Then you have the initial pain plus the results of the surgery to deal with.

Vaginal wind is a bit easier to deal with. I have found that I can tell when it is going to happen. It is almost always a problem on the way out. You know when air is in there. I have found that bearing down slowly to push the air out while the vagina is open and before changing positions, largely prevents that dreaded fart because most of the air has already left.

Re anal wind, If you are having lots of fibre your bowel will be more bulky, and it may just be complaining about the change of diet. It may settle down or you might be able to find an alternative form of fibre that is not so irritating. What happens if you eliminate the psyllium husk?

How long can it take? I really can't answer that question, H, because I found that I got results almost immediately, but lots of women find they try for quite a while before they suddenly start to have breakthroughs.

This pain must be driving you nuts. I have asked a lot of questions, but sorry I cannot give you much in the way of answers.

Cheers

Louise
