Pessary

Body:

I've only had a chance to skim this site. It looks like there is a lot of wonderful information and nice people and I'm glad I found it. I am a 52 years old and recently diagnosed with mild to moderate rectocele, cystocele, dropped uterus and tipped uterus. My major problem is a tendency to be leaky, especially from the rectocele, which really restricted my life. It appears I am more fortunate than I realized as it seems this can become much worse and I will now have lots of information to help me avoid surgery. I was fitted with a Gehrung pessary and it has given me my life back. I am able to golf again with no fear of embarrassment and I no longer am spending way too much time at home. The downside, however, is this type of pessary is very difficult to remove and I must go to the Drs every couple of months to have her do it. I was all set to order Trimo Sans, as she suggested, when I found the "not safe enough for cows" article. The odor problem I am having is not something I can live with and now I'm not sure what to do. Has any more information come out about trimo sans since 2006? Are there other vaginal gels that can be used safely instead? Any home remedys? I really appreciate any suggestions and look forward to researching this site.

i have been using a pessary for a year now and use Trimo Sans it been a life saver i have able to go to work which means i have lifting every day and not worry

Hi NNC430

I am not a pessary user, but personal odors are difficult to live with in our western society. I can understand why you want to use Trimosan. I am happy that you know that you can get significant benefit from the pessary.

Hopefully you will get some benefit from the other WW techniques that will allow you to go without the pessary in the longer term.

I know that many of us would prefer not to use products like Trimosan, but it is up to each of us to decide how we weigh up the positives and negatives of using or doing anything in this strange life. Everything has risks. I wouldn't be too worried about using it for a short time until you can figure out an alternative. This will at least allow you to keep living your life.

Have you tried a simple salt water douche? 1 teaspoon per cup of warm water, perhaps with a tiny bit of vinegar to make it a little bit acid. All those Trimosan-type products seem to act by keeping the vagina slightly acidic, so the right microflora can exist and keep the vagina smelling OK. I think the odor is to do with sloughing off old tissue in an anaerobic environment.

Cheers

Louise

Thanks so much for the replies. I probably will try trim-sans short term while I look for more natural remedies....
