Sponge Pee Problems!

Body:

Hi,

So I waited for the sponges to arrive and I was very excited to try one out. I am 39 with a 7mo. baby, cystocele but I have never had a pee leaking problem. Now I walk around with this sponge in and everthing feels groovy. I didn't know to order the larger ones and decided to try the small one out first. I was excited. I was going to try to go for a short run...then I noticed the leaking. I took the sponge out and the whole thing was full of pee. I sqeezed it out and it was definatly pee. What the hell? How did that happen? It was not falling out or anything.Should I use the bigger one or am i doing some dammage down there?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Sad Chick

sometimes a cystocele actually PREVENTS leakage
here's why...the bladder moves out of normal position changing the angle between bladder and urethra. sometimes the kink in the urethra prevents urine from leaking out. put in a pessary, lift the bladder, remove the kink ---> leaking

now I don't know why this happens to some women and not all, but I do know that when my cystocele began to improve (ie, get smaller and higher) I experienced a bit of leaking for a few days. don't know why it stopped and I'm not asking.

my gut tells me that if the sponge you had in was comfortable and not falling out, its the right size. but I've never used them, so what do I know?
maybe someone else will chime in soon...

Sue...can you help here? I am still trying to get this sponge thing right...my first sponge turned over and I had a tough time getting it out...but lo and behold...pun intended, my prolapse got better after this experience....I have NO idea why, but my prolapse is way up there for the first time in a looong time... go figure... :-) Mae

Thanks Granolamom, i was thinking it was probably something like that too. It has been a few hours now and i have to say that my prolapse is almost not visible! This has not happened since I first noticed it at 8 weeks postpartum, like 6 months ago. So I wonder now if i just pee around the house for a little while with the sponge in the morning and then perhaps things will be reminded where they are supposed to be for the rest of the day!

It really is all very strange.

best to you xo

Do you mean that while the sponge was inside your vagina, it became full of pee? I don't think I'd repeat that. Couldn't it cause infection?

Ellen

Hi Chick

I saw a research paper once that was investigating urinary incontinence in young girls. The girls were peeing on the toilet, then standing up, pulling up their knickers, then dribbling. The researchers eventually twigged that these girls were slouching on the toilet, probably half falling in, so urine was running backwards into the vagina when they emptied their bladders. When they stood up and pulled up their knickers the urine was coming out of the vagina and ending up as a damp patch on the knickers. So they taught them to sit on the toilet differently and the problem was solved.

Any possibility of this?

Louise

Yes, the sponge was full of pea and it was inside, no not something I'd admit to anyone face to face and very odd I thought. I figured the sponge slid down enough to peek out a bit while I was walking and soaked it up and inside but now Louise has me thinking otherwise because really it did seem to stay put. I can be a very bad slouching pee person...intersting AND I have had the stand up and drip after a pee thing happen too. Oh, I knew you ladies would help out. I'm going to try again today with mindful posture all the way.

Thanks ever so much.

Happier Chick

Just read your post and wanted to check in and see if things were better in this area. I have some thoughts...dh is home...will check in later.

I'm thinking of getting a sponge and have been reading relevant posts and this one has me mystified, despite the explanations. I get the bit about slouching and pee running backwards over the vulva, but how does it actually get past the introitus, and up enough to actually soak the sponge? I can only imagine that happening if the introitus is gaping wide and peeing person is tipped right back, like liquid being poured into an open vessel. If anyone can illuminate me (whilst being patient with my probable denseness on this one) I'd be very grateful, thanks.

Also, a couple of other questions, is it safe to use bliss balm as a lubricant for the sponge if one is necessary- - ie does it degrade the sponge?

And one more - if the reason for wearing the sponge is to make exercise more comfortable (ie everything would otherwise descend on the merest jiggle) is it possibly harmful or aggravating to the POPs to do the exercise with the sponge inserted (a bit like taking painkillers to mask pain and then doing damaging activity). very gratefully yours Judith

You might try poking the sponge up a little higher. I use a tampon and it will get pee on it when it drops down. I can feel when this happens so I just change the tampon. I assume it is wicking pee from the urethra.

Thank you KatKat, that sounds like a plausible explanation. Judith xx

use jade prolapse sponge, cut it round, like a small medium donut. use salt water with iodine only,( iodine is healing for infections,) with turkey baster with placement of sponge. pinch sponge HARD, MAKE IT SMALL on all sides, put up far, so finger does not feel it... make sure your bowels are moving well, metamuCIL workes, and dont forget it.Full bowels will push out sponge, and make life awful.makes any prolapse worse, put finger up virgina when moving bowels. , stops prolapse. put in sponge when your get up, dont wait until your prolapse slips down its too late then , its harder, and not very smart.think about it. its a strain.how can your body ever heal,??? when sponge is up, turkey base again, dont let ever get dry dont worry about pee in the sponge, its not dangerous. maybe during the day ,when possible put turkey baster with salt water after peeing. take out at night.salt water is cure, sponges are the best when used right.if having a problem removing use turkey baster to make is easier,There never a smell, never an infection.any more. Its. just wonderful I am from from another country, so dont look at spelling best always for you, Patra

Thank you too pearlnecklace, I can see there's quite an art to this sea sponge thing. Putting it in the morning makes perfect sense. When I get them I'll let you know how it goes. Judith xx
