Chairs, seats, cushions and sitting posture ...what do you recommend?

Body:

Hello,
I've been lurking on this site for a while and just got signed on as a member. I've learned alot and feel a little less worried about the symptoms I've been having. One thing that I haven't seen on the forums is a sort of one stop spot for learning more about how to best sit to stay in posture. I know there is a lot of info on it, but it seems to be here and there and that, at least for me, is a little confusing. So, I thought it would be nice if some of you might post here what you have found that works for sitting.

What types of seats do you find helpful...for desk work and for just sitting watching a movie, eating dinner, riding in the car, etc?

Should I put a cushion under my tailbone to help me tilt forward?
Am I supposed to be squishing my crotch into the seat...that seems to be the effect of what I've seen described, but would seem to lead to more irritation.
For watching Tv am I better off laying on my back with my feet up?
So...is the 'correct' posture the same no matter which type of prolapse you have? (It seems for one you want things to fall more to the front and the other you want things to fall more to the back???)

THANK YOU!!

Hi -- you're right, the forum has a lot of creative discussion, but the one-stop you're after is the FAQs on the homepage. I think the things you are asking are pretty clearly explained there, but I also recommend getting the DVD. Yes, it's worth it.

As for myself, I mostly just sit on the floor in the classic positions described in the FAQs. My laptop comes down there, I nurse, fold laundry, watch TV, etc. there. I sit in a chair to eat and at other social occasions where I can't use the floor. I just don't let my back touch the back of the chair and use the strength of my own spine to hold myself up. When I drive, I use a rolled up towel in my lumbar region. When I am a passenger, I sit cross legged.

Oh, and you want *everything* to go forward. Check out Christine's blogs -- that concept is very clearly illustrated there. (and/or read the book).

:-)

Hey,

I have a kneeling chair, this is the only chair I am sitting on. If I am not at home, I sit on the floor on my heels or crosslegged. I always rest lying down on my side, but if I lay down, my 2 nurslings would jump right on me, so that is not resting anymore but balancing a baby and a toddler while protecting my boobs...fun!

Hope this helps!
Liv

PS: BTW, I have problems in the car, I hate those soft back tilted carseats! Now I am sitting on a big hardcover book in the car (lol), and hoping to find some solution!

Oh my - there is no way I can sit on a bare floor or any hard surface with my tailbone.... This is concerning. I like the part about not leaning back, though, to let your muscles do the work, although it'll take me some time to get better with that.

with your bum slightly lifted as much as you can (this takes mega muscle)

Thank you. I have read through the FAQs some and discovered a couple of those blogs, but need to do some more exploring. I think, being new to all of this, it's just a bit overwhelming...sometimes information overload. I do have the book, and it has some good info in it, but I feel like it requires wading through a lot of info (which I will eventually want) to get some of the more basic info (which I am ready for now). I hope that makes sense. Thank you for recommending the DVD. I may go ahead and order that. I saw a clip of it on You tube and it looks good.
I'm also glad you said that about letting your spine do the work. :-)

I just reread and caught this. I was actually wondering about those. Did you find it at Backsavers? Thank you!

Mine is from a garage sale, lol. But I googled it and saw lots of great peaces! I think many members here have one of these.
