Feel like I'm totally backwards now - burning sensation?

Body:

Hi to all

I will keep it short. I discovered bladder prolapse 6 months after 2nd son was born by c/section. I had no symptoms of the prolapse before 6 months post-partum. My first son was born after a VERY long labour, epidural, ventouse etc. I had severe bladder damage after the first birth but no prolapse (that they said they could find). Pelvic floor issues and had to self-catherterise for 6 weeks - HELL!!

The prolapse made itself known after I returned to exercise (after 3 years!) and I also lifted a very heavy table.

Anyway, after I found my prolapse and it was confirmed (originally as quite mild) I got Christine's book and DVD and things definitely improved for about 3 months. I also had Mayan massage and was having physical therapy. I got to the point that I often didn't notice or think about it.

Then, after 3 months, it started getting bad again and now it's worse than ever. Visually it seems no closer to the vagina entrance. I have very little pressure, no 'ball feeling', etc but I do have significant burning sensation. It is so irritating and I can only assume it's because of the pressure of the prolapse.

I feel frighteningly down about it all and feel like nothing I'm doing is making any difference (Nauli, firebreathing, exercise DVD, diet, posture etc).

Is this regression normal? I must admit I slackened off everything a bit when I started feeling so much better and I guess now I'm paying for it. I just hope upon hope that I can get back to where it was. I'm terribly scared I've made it permanently worse.

Anyway, any suggestions about how to deal with the burning sensation would be greatly appreciated. Also, has anyone else suffered similar regression and then improved again? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Many, many thanks in advance

Hi fc12,
I totally understand how you might be feeling. I have had similar experiences, probably for different reasons. Initially, after I was diagnosed (10 years ago, I'm now 52) kegels seemed to "cure" it but then I had a relapse and that's when I discovered this site. Stopping the kegels and taking a lot of other measures got me out of the relapse but then I had another one fairly recently, which I seem to have emerged from. So I understand the down feelings that come with the shock of relapse.

Here are some thoughts and a few things I've learned from my experience which may or may not be directly relevant to you but might at least get you thinking about what's going on.

1. Too many kegels simply aggravate POP, they're only of any use if the pelvic floor is weak in the first place. Also, do them the right way, Christine's way. It's possible that, because of the history you mention, that part of your pelvic floor is weak and that's what's causing symptoms in conjunction with your POP (weak pelvic floor wouldn't cause POP in the first place but it can exacerbate some of the symptoms associated with it) If so, strengthening that bit will get you out of this. Have you got a specialist PT who can check it for you?

2. In this recent relapse, I too found that all the DVD exercises/firebreathing/nauli aggravated rather than helped. I thought that I was doing the posture etc properly but I recently discovered that I wasn't and couldn't because of some structural issues (including, amongst other things, jammed sacrum) that is being dealt with by cranial osteopathy and physiotherapy (PT). I have a chronic condition but in your case, is it posible that the first birth has whacked your pelvis out of kilter? These things aren't necessarily immediately obvious, they can take a while to manifest, but it might explain why the exercises make it worse.

3. If your PT isn't aware of WW theory, maybe you're doing something new that is counter to it and has aggravated the POP.

3. You refer to this as a relapse but, from what you've written and without knowing what your original POP sensations were, it doesn't sound as if it is necessarily POP getting worse ie no increased feeling of pressure, nothing visual. Have you checked out the burning feeling for being something else eg UTI.

Just a few thoughts, hope something helps.I'm sure that some of the other members will come up with useful advice. But do not despair - my latest relapse was fairly horrendous, couldn't even have sex, and I'm way better now and older than you. Good luck, keep posting Judith
