Rest/ Walking/ DVD workout

Body:

Hi Ladies --

I wrote a week ago nearly hysterical. Tomorrow I am four weeks post partum and am feeling better emotionally. Honestly, I have been a wreck dealing with the fear of the prolapse and the implications it will have for my life. Many of you have said that your prolapses have changed significantly within the year after childbirth, and this is what I will remind myself over the next year or so. My husband keeps telling me to take it a day at a time, but I also don't want to do anything that could worsen the situation.

A few questions...I read in a past post that alluded to that once a woman has one organ prolapsed, in my case the bladder (pretty significantly), that eventually the uterus will also fall. Is this true?

I am only 4 weeks postpartum but am starting to go stir crazy from inactivity. When should women who are post partum begin doing the DVD exercises?

Also, in the next few weeks I would like to begin taking some short walks. Has anyone found that walking makes their cystoceles worse?

Thanks for your advice and support -- and keep the success stories coming!

I did the reminder thing for sure -- wrote down every word on here regarding healing and read it over, over, over. It helps. A month seems like a long time, but rest assured, your healing potential has only just begun! It's really, really slow, but the process does move forward.

I don't think there is any evidence that the uterus is doomed to prolapse once there is a cystocele involved! Mine hasn't, and I intend to use ww posture to ensure that it never will :-).

I think it is recommended that you wait until the lochia is done before doing the DVD excercises. Maybe start after your 6 week check? I *think* Christine said that firebreathing and Nauli were appropriate to start around 3 months pp -- but I could be wrong on that. Some gentle plies and releves now probably won't hurt any, though.

Walking -- it's been fabulous for me!!! Really, I think that walking in posture has been one of the best things for my cystocele. Start now, if you feel ready. Leave your babies with dh for 10 minutes and walk at a comfortable pace. Focus on your posture. Build time and mileage as the weeks go on. Add hills! Walking helped me clear my head and the emotions surrounding POP, as well as making my whole body feel better. And my baby loves all the sights and sounds as we roll around trails and town!

Your dh is right. One day at a time. Be gentle with yourself.

I wanted to add some support. I was where you are not long ago. My baby is now 4 months. I couldn't stand for long periods of time during the early pp. I went hysterical about this too. At 12 weeks I started walking and did inner and out thigh workouts at the gym.

I do have 'not-so-good' days but find that (now - at 4m pp) if I keep moving in posture with baby in tow things are ok.

Enjoy your sweet baby.

only have a min so I'm going to be quick

rest when you need to

walking in posture has always been wonderful for my pop, even at 4 weeks pp. providing you don't push yourself to do more than you are ready for.

I didn't get back to the workout until much later, mostly due to time constraints. I started the firebreathing when my lochia stopped but found that I'd start spotting again afterwards. so I stopped and got back to it at around 12 weeks pp.

well I say rest rest rest! I know you are eager to return to your regularly scheduled activities- but you have your whole life to do that- take this time and just rest. Love your baby up- but rest. At four weeks postpartum I recommend having someone else do the dishes, cooking and laundry!
A nice walk each day in the posture would be wonderful- raise your arms above your head and feel everything pull up. Then rest again. I wish I could walk everyday but right now it is so darn hot I'd have to get up early and that is just not going to happen :)
I started back nauli somewhere around 2 months- but have only recently (5 months) started taking exercise seriously- and even now I am resting frequently.
about the post- yes many women experience the back wall coming to meet the front wall- but this wouldn't be your uterus falling- it would present as a rectocele. Don't even think about this right now though, you are going to feel so much better in the next year.
