wikipedia

Body:

just out of curiosity, Christine have you tried to put stuff on wikipedia? maybe another place to spread the word? quick search on there was the basic stuff (plus prolapse in parrots.... ;-) )

Louise was going to look into it for us - I think it's quite a process to post. How about if we make it a goal for 2010!!

Quick google makes it look quite easy..
create an account
search for what you want. if there is nothing there, you click on a button to write an article.

if there is something there you want to edit, you can edit it

Wikipedia make a page

haven't actually read them by the way, so they may say you have to stand on your head and do a jig--no idea ;-)

articles will be deleted if not fairly neutral so need to be very information based, and can be edited at any time...

great goal for the new year!!!

Yes, I did look into it, and discovered that it is not as simple as it sounds. Wikipedia editing is not for the faint hearted, as there is only a small percentage of wikipedia editors who do the bulk of the editing, and new editors don't have much clout. You can't just edit articles without consulting with the original authors, or they revert back to the old version. It is not easy to get dialog going when people have moved on, and may not even have the same email address as they had when they wrote the original articles. There are lots of protocols and policies to follow.

It seems that Wikipedia has become so big and cumbersome that it doesn't work very well any more. It is all done by volunteers. I put it in the too hard basket at the time because Wikipedia was under a bit of a cloud at the time, and looked like getting worse. I couldn't get any responses from authors of the articles related to POP. I was astounded at some of the inaccuracies and typos, but could not commit the time or effort needed to wade through the protocols of each edit I wanted to make, and there would have been at least 20 separate edits, from memory. I guess I just figured that there were other less frustrating ways of getting word out.

I am sorry, but I am not prepared to go down that road. Have a look Kiki, and tell me if you think I am on the right track in deciding that Wikipedia editing is like tilting at windmills.
