Function of pelvic floor

Body:

So we know what the pelvic floor does NOT do, such as hold up all our innards, as Christine has so gloriously explained. We know that the pelvic floor is essential in sphincter control for the anus, vagina, and urethra. However, I have seen may references to the fact that an intact pelvic floor is very important in managing POP, but I am hoping for a more detailed explanation as to the reasoning behind this, if the support system for our organs is largely structurally based.
I am very interested in hearing from all the women in here, particularly those who may not have a whole lot of familiarity with technical terms, etc but who have felt things in their own body that may answer my very abstract question :)

As I read this again, I see that you are calling more for women's experiences of their pelvic floor than a scientific explanation of its function. How about if I throw my 2-cents in after others have had a chance to respond...
