Fallen by the wayside...help! thx

Body:

Hi everyone, still haven't got use to the forum and where I should put this so here goes....(I was 1 day new when it went down) so haven't been on much.
My prolapse has been worse than usual, achy lower back/side, and not helped with my 3 types of exercise im doing.Started Zumba Gold(for over 55's) 2 weeks ago, and also moved up in my ceroc class, so drops etc killer on the right thigh and need abdominals(what are they lol) to pull self up from back lying position.
Anyone else doing similar? Also I read somewhere that accupuncture might help? Im doing a lot of dancing at the moment and it aint good on the body...the weather's not helping the spirits either...
Haven't mastered firebreathing and was trying for ages to keep the posture in everything I do, hard work, and have let the program slip.....no using complaining If Im not doing the hard work eh..
Thanks for listening. And thanks Louise for past advice via email when site was down...maybe you will read this :-)

Yay! Hi, Kiwigirl.

Zumba and Ceroc, eh? You're really going for it, eh? I'll stick to bellydance. It is getting easier to incorporated WW posture into it, as the basics become more automatic. You will probably find that your body adapts to the new levels of exercise. I guess these two styles are a workout in themselves. I think there might be a bit of behind the scenes working out or dancing several nights a week to maintain their athleticism, and on the whole they are relatively young.

DH and I did some Swing Dancing a couple of years ago. That was fun! I would love to do some more. The teacher started teaching Blues, which is a branch of Swing, just before the end of the classes. That's a bit lower and a bit slower, probably kinder to older bodies.

With dance I think the secret is to maintain control so that your body doesn't have to suddenly do something unexpected. The secret is, of course, to make it look effortless, when it really isn't, but once your balance gets better you can be more controlled in any form of dance.

Looking forward to hearing how you go.

Louise

Hi Louise, lovely to see your reply here! Sitting wacthing Christine's DVD again and reading parts of her book. Think I originally just found the book overwhelming- all the medical terms..... Many around me don't understand and have no idea what Im talking about. Some have said get an op, it works. But I wonder if we who dance/exercise a lot have to take more care and our bodies are worn out lol.
I mentioned to you in the past that I had 10 years ballet training while growing up snippets of other dancing and exercise regimes, and more recently 10 years of line dancing. The ceroc 10months and Zumba the new one. My daughter started belly dancing and thought I would be good at it, but can't make that night its on.The other half would never see me..oops
Swing looks fun, and loved rock n roll when DH and I did it for 8 months. That was enough for him and me together haha.
And yes you are right about control, if I perservere and as we all know, have our up and down days, I'll get through this.Just a bit hard at the mo flying around the floor trying to concentrate on steps with that falling through feeling.
Ceroc is the mood lifter for now, and yes I didn';t think Id be doing these moves when I started, like a Tango Drop, but boy is it fun!
Im off for a whole day of linedancing so have a good one yourself :-) and once again thanks Louise, keep on dancing I say!!!

Hi Louise,

have you just noticed that there are 2 kiwigirls online at the moment? I was in the middle of sending you a message re dancing /workout and noticed so logged out then tried again but had to log back on, and 1 kiwigirl showed online when I was off......so I am the kiwigirl that cerocs and dances like you...can you investigate...thanks.....

And here's the part I was starting to write....I have lost flexibility in the hips in the last 4-5 years, as I know I could sit crosslegged at yoga before that time and now it's a real struggle and quite uncomfortable. As mentioned I restarted the workout this week, the standing parts are okay except for balancing on one leg..it must be my hips... have booked a massage for tomorrow in the hopes it will help.
Despite having been active and dancing a lot this last 10 years I am bothered by this lack of flexibility ....but telling myself to take it one day at a time. Found a powder form of MSN yay, start that tomorrow.
Re: ballet its a form of discipline Id given up on ,so hard on the joints lol but Il do Christine's for the sake of improvement :-) and I do feel very like her in figure and fine hair hehe. Now to get the same balance would be an achievement !
Signing off for the night now, hope there is not another kiwigirl copying me lol

Hi Kiwigirl,

Granolamom may have an explanation for you, since this has happened to her. I don't know why it happens, but know it can be annoying. I believe it has to do with your ISP, but beyond that I have no clue. I will ask my tech support for further answers.

:) Christine

P.S. Oh, and keep moving in the posture. This isn't ballet because we keep the lumbar curve above all else. This way, the four sets of load-bearing joints are exercised very beneficially. You will build very strong and supple joints!

Hi Kiwigirl

I think i have become more supple again. However, I think that the menopausal changes have meant that I have less padding in my joints, so if I sit cross-legged the points of contact with the floor become painful quite quickly. I have to sit on a bit of padding. Keep at it. Use as many muscles as you can, and try and go through the full range of any movement, and balance it up on both sides.

The tighter you get, the tighter you get. I hope that the opposite is also true!

Louise

Hi Louise and Christine for your replies and support. The problem re 2 kiwigirls is sorted :-).
Have just been for a lovely massage. Some of the hip stiffness, and other areas may be related to the scoliosis. I lived with for over 20 years before my chiro discovered it at my first visit with him.So my 10 years of ballet was done while having it! I now know I can live with the prolapse too, thanks to this site. The stiff sore hip at the moment is not the one I dislocatedyears ago.
Yes hopefully the suppleness will improve still need to perfect firebreathing and Nauli.
You are right Christine its not the ballet we use to do! we'd have got the stick on out on our bottoms haha. I kid you not, my teacher had a stick for tapping out the beat and any parts of a student sticking out where they shouldn't- thanks!
