thank you memyselfandi.. will try tampons, see sometimes fat is not all that bad, Patra

I am new to your site, so hello all from Aust`s Gold Coast. Six months ago I was diagnosed with prolapse of the bladder and uterus, and told I have an hernia on my bowel and a `kink. After discussion with a gyno, (I didn`t have one before), I chose to have a pessary, as I was definitly against the operation. In short $500 later, the pessary was a total failure, lasted in less than 24 hours, but at least learned 2 things from the exercise. That I did not leak with the pessary in place, and that after such a short time, I was developing a discharge. So it was with interest that I read, that some with my symptoms are trying tampons.
I would be interested to hear comments from anyone, around my age, 67 this coming week, as to the success or difficulties you have encountered with this tactic. I am trying to learn how to do pelvic floor retraining, and have taken on board the whole list of do`s and don`ts. Christine, your book sound helpful, so I will order as soon as I am able.

Hi Bornblonde

I would think that having spent $500 on a pessary you would be within your rights to go back and have a re-fitting. Did Medicare or health insurance cover it? It is probably the wrong size for you. It shouldn't fall out after 24 hours, if that's what happened. Sometimes women have to have several fittings before it is comfortable and will stay in place.

Having said that, I first got a pessary over 15 years ago, and it was never comfortable, sort of like knickers with loose elastic. I could always feel it, and it made defaecation difficult. Since then my POPs got to the point where I had to do something about it. If I insert it now my vagina says, "No thanks", and just spits it right out again! I didn't go back for a refitting. Since I have been using Wholewoman techniques I have had better results than the pessary gave me, when my POPs were much less severe. I wouldn't be bothered even considering a pessary now. Don't need one.

However, if you put pessary into the Search box, the hits you get will keep you reading for weeks. There have been, and always will be, discussions about them. Some women find their pessary to be their best friend, and they definitely have their uses.

Hope to hear from you again.
