WW posture and knees!

Hi to you experienced WW. I have just received my pack at long last!!:D and just in the nick of time. I was feeling so low yesterday and this morning because the symptoms I had were so debilitating I was thinking I couldn't carry on functioning feeling like that. Thankfully those days don't usually last too long and I did go to the GP and get some anal hydrocortisone pessaries as I was feeling so bad. I have only used one and feel quite a bit better already so may not need any more. Then my pack arrived and I had a go at some of the first exercises and it is so good to be able to start work on the posture properly at last.

Christine mentions on the DVD about keeping your knees straight. My knees naturally turn in and I have to make a conscious effort to make them straight - should I do this?

Any advice welcome!

Pollyanna, I wonder where the anal pain and inflammation is coming from? From my research anal irritation is usually to do with something we have eaten. You don't eat white bread, do you? Had any antibiotics recently? Thrush from antibiotics?

What do your feet and ankles do? If you lock your knees back do they come together or move apart? What happens if you bend your knees slightly?

If my feet and ankles are straiht the knees turn in. If I lock them they stay in pretty much the same place. To rotate them out the movement seems to need to come from the hip.

I think you may be right about the inflamation but I'm finding it difficult to work out what could be causing it. I had antibiotics for a week at the end of Sept and got thrush which went quickly with treatment. I took a good quality probiotic and take a psyllium husk product daily that has probiotic and prebiotic in it.

My husband makes all our bread in our bread machine and I have gluten free bread made from half white and half brown gluten free flour. I have been eating that for years with no problems. I already have quite a few intollerences to foods and drinks so there may be something new that I am reacting to. I need to start keeping a food diary to work this out.

I do seem to be very sensitive to a lot of things. There are some scents of flowers that instantly make me feel ill - lillies and hyacynths. I also react to some scents in hand soaps, perfumes etc.

OK, you have knees that work. I am sure they work just fine. It amazes me that we are all so different, but so much the same. Yes, to turn your knees out it does need to come from the hip joints.

I am glad you are receptive to the food dairy. It is really the only way you will be able to work out what is causing the problem. If the inflammation is inside the anus it has to be something that is irritating it on the way through, or, as Christine suggested, an hormonal thing. If it is outside the anus it could be something that is coming into contact with your anus, eg soap, clothes detergent or other laundry product, or its fragrance. Or it could be worms if there is itching. That has happened to me before.

We have talked about this before, which the search engine should pull up. Humans have a residual form of animal "anal scent glands". Ours are not active like dogs, but they are there and probably more active than we are aware of during our reproductive years. They must also be controlled either directly or indirectly by estradiol, because there can be a radical change when that hormone becomes depleted with menopause. Mine was radical and turned my anus into a puffed up, lumpy, painful, bleeding insanely-itching mess. It was 100% hormonal, which I devoted all my time and energy bringing under control. I have never had a hemorrhoid in my life, but ever since this experience, I've wondered if some hemorrhoids are hormonal in nature. This is a major symptom - and a terrible one - for many older women. Isn't it interesting that virtually nothing - except articles on anal cancer, as anal cancer almost always stems from these glands - can be found in the scientific literature. C.

The inflammation is on the inside mostly - occasionally outside as well if I get a small fissure. I'm sure diet plays a part but also stress (see 'more rectocele questions' thread). I am nearly 48 and heading menopause way. I haven't had any major signs yet - small changes in my cycle some months but not much else yet. However there will be hormonal changes going on as it doesn't just happen overnight, so could be a factor.

Pollyanna, it sounds like you are having sensible thoughts about all this. Perimenopause is different for every woman. sometimes it goes on for decades, sometimes the periods just stop without any other changes. Sometimes we get conditions and symptoms of conditions flaring up, or appearing for the first time. It really is a time of great hormonal upheaval.

Diet is one area where we can make changes that will reduce inflammation in our whole body. Check out the video of the Anti-inflammatory Diet in the kitchen of Christine's Cottage. There has also been a lot of discussion of anti-inflammataory foods on these Forums. Use the search box to look for them.
