cystocele questions

Body:

I have not been diagnosed with cystocele (but with uterine prolapse) But I think my dr. just didn't say anything about it. I feel 'bulgy' right in front near opening of vagina. (hope not TMI). At first I thought it might be aging, bulgy tissue as in just 'older' vaginal wall, but now I feel burning and discomfort there. Is this how a cystocele would feel? Can you really reverse it and HOW???? I have been trying to search for answers that have probably been asked before, but it is taking me too long to not find exactly what I need to do. I want to reverse this!!! (as I'm sure anyone would) Please help, and THANKS!
Pam

Hi Momof8

You can use the Search box to find discussions that you find relevant. You can also have a look at excerpts from Christine's DVD on Youtube. If you like what you see, then buy the book and the DVD and you will have all the tools you need to minimise your POP symptoms. There are no promises that Wholewoman techniques will reverse your prolapse, but chances are that these techniques will reduce your symptoms considerably, both the frequency of them and the degree of them. Reading the book will give you all the reasons why it works.

Posture is the key element, but it is important to clothe your body in ways that allows your body to assume the shape it needs to assume in order to keep your pelvic organs inside. It is also important to feed your body well to prevent constipation and support tissue healing, and to use your body differently for every day tasks and activities. It is a multi- pronged approach.

Keep reading and asking questions.

What is recommended for 'feeding your body well'?
With a 3, 5, & 7 year old sons it is hard to find time to search for topics for answers. I will get the book when I have the money, but is there a place on this site that gives recommended foods, herbs, etc. and about clothing....Should we avoid 'waisted' skirts? Just wear jumpers? I tended to gain weight the last time I went to jumpers. :(
I'm so scared. I've been so tense. I just talked to my dr. on the phone and she said I DO have a cystocele. I have soreness. She (of course) said surgery is sometimes the best route to go for a more active life, and that there could be more future surgeries, but that isn't always the case. They could "tape "the cystocele if I had the surgery while the vagina is still healthy. If I waited, the vaginal wall could have stress from the UP and then it would take surgery instead of "tape". I just don't kow where to turn. Do you kow of places in PA ereas where you could get help if you don't live in SW area? :) actually I'm crying :*(
Thanks,
Pam

Hey Pam, I know right now it all seems really really heavy, physically and emotionally. And I know you are in a hurry to gain as much information in as little time as possible. I understand, I have 4 little ones at home with me. And I also know because I had the same desperate need for information when I learned I had prolapse. However, I want to recommend you make learning about prolapse and your body a priority. It is a challenge to make yourself top priority when you are busy, but take the time. Claim it as yours and you won't regret it one bit and neither will your family.
If you have time to troll this forum and read and read and read you will find all the answers to all the questions you might have and even answers to questions you won't even think to ask. You can look on youtube at the wholewoman channel, there are quick videos that are more like teasers! Also there is a village here, by that I mean the wholewoman site has many different parts to offer, including videos of food preparation and clothing making. If you don't have the time, then the way to go is to order the DVD. It gets you the information fast, in an organized way, and as a bonus there is a work out you can do.
For now, know that YES! you can feel so so so much better. Eating well for your body is just that. Eating well for YOUR body. This really depends on you, what your body likes. I love whole foods, nothing packaged, nothing artificial (no msg, no hfcs, no partially hydrogenated fats, on and on). At this time our family is grain free and almost 100% sugar free (we still eat fruit and sometimes I sneak a little chocolate :)). I like to eat pineapple. Right now we eat meats and mostly organic food as well. But the trick is to avoid things that irritate your condition. Eat enough fiber to avoid straining on the toilet. Avoid tight pants and skirts that compress your abdomen at all. I like low rise stuff and am thrilled it's popular now (so that it's easy to find). You can still dress beautifully if you like, maternity hose is great for not compressing your abdomen.
When you get a chance you can look on youtube at Nauli. It's a yoga move that really sucks everything up inside. When I added Nauli to the posture I found my aha moment. I would nauli and then pull into the posture and find that things would stay up for longer and longer until one day I felt awesome all day.
I've been doing this for about 4 years now. I discovered my prolapse when my 3rd baby way very little and have since then had another baby and am pregnant again with our 5th. What you will hear here is to give it a year or so of diligently working on wholewoman techniques and then consider surgical interventions. Most people who post here (I want to say all?) have found at least some improvement in a year. For some it isn't enough. We respect that and wish them the best of luck in whatever they decide.
So, I know your mind is whirling right now, take a deep breath and know that you really can feel so much better.
one last quick tip: when you feel that burning feeling get on your knees and elbows. It really helps so much. Oh and make sure to empty your bladder all the way every time- pee on all fours if you need to.

alemama, Thank you for the help and the encouragement. I'm glad to see people have been here for years. This tells me something must be working. I just want to live the 'young-like' vibrant life I dremed of for my later years. I don't want to sit in a corner, afraid to stand up, because I won't have surgery the dr. recommends. I feel 47 is still young. My boys want me to go outside sled riding with them in the snow and I don't want to quit "living"!!!!!!

HI Momof8

You've gotten great advice. I just want to chime in some encouragement. Today I ran around in teh snow and sledded with my kids without thinking twice. Actually, I did think when I flew down in a funky position, leaning back, abdominal muscles tight, and thought, eek! Not good for those organs--don't do that again or I might start to feel something, off I go again!

Through WW my POP have improved so dramatically I don't, on a day to day, notice them. Through the posture I've really managed to change my PoP. I'm not as diligent as others about doing the excercises. I tend to remember nauli when I just ate...not of use then. But when I do them regularly, and my little WW morning routine, than I really really notice how much better they feel than even my usual better place. what i eat also really affects my POP. I went on a strict anti inflammatory diet (try that in search box) and wow did my cyst improve--incredible!

gotta run...but stick around and you will find out lots of stuff to help & lots of support!

... means keep your fluids up, keep the fibre up. Have plenty of vegetables and fruit. Not too much meat. This will help resolve and prevent constipation.

Eliminate processed carbohydrates and eat whole grains rather than refined grains. Keep sugar low. These will all keep your blood sugar more steady and ensure that the food you eat will be nutritionally valuable.

Not too much fat. Try and eat fats with an omega 6 : omega 3 ratio of less than 4:1, eg, range reared meats. Avoid grain fed meats. Game meat is universally low in omega 6 and high in omega 3. It is always good for your body. Avoid all those oilseed oils like canola, sunflower etc which used to be touted as the saviours of the world. They are all crammed with omega 6 fats. Farm reared salmon may be fed grains and oilseeds. Most laying hens are grain fed. Get eggs that come from chickens that are free range. Check or you may be eating too many bad fats when you think you are eating heaps of good fats. Wild fish are much better for you, but you can run into mercury problems with deep sea wild caught fish. It is called being between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Find out about foods that do not cause inflammation and foods that can prevent inflammation and resolve inflammation. Have plenty of antioxidants in your diet.

Do not eat fast foods at all. They are sabotagers of good health.

Have as wide a variety of foods in your diet as possible. Attend to any food allergies and sensitivities, and avoid these foods altogether for now.

I haven't listed a lot of specifics. I will leave you to google "inflammation food" and see what you can do with what is available to you locally. Also try "super foods".

Don't overcook your food. Some food is better lightly cooked. Other food is OK raw. Fermented foods are very good for you. Raw dairy food is better for you than pasteurised, if you can get it, but you run some pathogenic risk if it is home produced and hygiene is slack.

Does that help?

Louise

Thank you, Louise.
I've been eating oatmeal and fresh ground flax seed for breakfast (okay?) I had an apple today because I was feeling REAL ill.

I have 2 dairy goats I do drink the milk from, but I don't drink much. I mostly keep them for the kids.

I've always only use whole wheat bread. Use to make my own, but this computer takes too much of my time! :)

We do eat eggs from our own chickens, but with the snow, we are feeding them all grain now.

I was drinking Raw cider (with the mother) with a tsp. of honey each night. Should I continue this?

We don't eat much meat, but the deer meat is probably best?

I'm working on the water. I use to drink a lot. I will get back to it.

We make our own apple cider....love it!

I cook in iron pots/pans on our wood-burning cook stove.

My biggest downfall I'm sure is coffee. I am trying to limit to 1-2 cups a day and then drop back more if I can. I replaced afternoon to red clover loose tea.

Working on more veggies. I love salads, but hate to make them.

I've noticed if I lean way forward for BM it has helped and I think the flax seed is helping. I've actually had "regular" (not hard, round) BMs last 2 days.

Thank you for all the help and time!!!! Is this information in the book? I wondered if the book is all of what's happening or does it tell what TO DO about what's happening?
Thanks,
Pam

Congratulations on the poop!!!! That is exactly what you need, so whatever you are doing right now, it's working. You may find you need to tweak it sometimes - maybe around your period....or that you need to up your flax dose after a while. But you'll figure it out.

Hi Momof8

Hi the common treatment for this type of prolapse is a pessary ring.

Hi jaybird,
While a common option for cystocele may be a pessary, there are many additional facets to dealing with pelvic organ prolapse, which is essentially the basis of Whole Woman. We thrive on quality information and personal experiences, so if you have either of those to share regarding pessary rings or other aspects of living with prolapse, it would be much appreciated!

If you ever decide to have surgery, don't let them use mesh.I needed the surgery, and the mesh has eroded just after 10 months.

I got fitted for a pessary ring a few days ago and apparently it was too large as it caused terrible pressure in my bowel and I could not move my bowels...I went back the next day and although the doctor told me it was a perfect fit he took that one out and put in a size smaller..I do not feel it in me or did I with the larger one..I have some low back pain and urine leakage when i sneeze but will tolerate it until I see him in 2 weeks to recheck...It is wonderful to be able to walk without feeling like by bladder is going to come out so I will see how this one goes..I am told to douche once a week with vinegar and water and to use a vaginal cream once a week as well.. I will get it cleaned by the doctor every 3 months..My fingers are crossed it will work because I have other issues so right now surgery isn't an option...Hope this helps someone....Does anyone have any problems moving their bowels? Since I have had the pessary put in I feel as though I can't move my bowels normally...

Hi Margo

It is like being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, isn't it? Yes, I had trouble pooing with a pessary, which was one of the reasons I didn't like it. One of the main principles of Wholewoman techniques is to keep the bowels moving. Anything that stops bowel motions is not helpful.

Is there a reason why you cannot remove it and replace it yourself? If you can, then you can remove it for a bowel motion then replace it afterwards. You probably don't need it at night, anyway because you are horizontal in bed, so you won't have gravity aggravating your POP.
