Hi

I am just like you guys with a prolapsed - today I have found this video that you may find interesting, it was made this year 2011. Use the link to go to the website - let us know what you think

Hi Diamond

We have seen Dr Oz before. You could put Dr Oz into the Search box and have a look at that conversation. My initial response last time wasn't very positive, and it is not really any more positive this time, but for different reasons.

Briefly, the Super Kegel they described has nothing to do with pelvic floor muscles. They are contracting the gluteal muscles, which are on the outside of the pelvis, while the pelvic floor muscles are on the inside. Doing this exercise will tighten your hamstring muscles as well, and encourage your pelvis to tip backwards, making the bladder and uterus tip backwards and into a position on top of the vagina. This sets up exactly the precursor situation for prolapse that is described by the doctor. Not much point in that, eh? And they don't tell you how many or how often.

If you want to learn how to do Kegels effectively I suggest that you go to a reputable women's health physical therapist, and don't listen to a doctor on TV who does surgical repairs! Then do them standing or sitting.

The pessary section was basically right, but any woman considering a pessary would be wise to find out about them from a doctor who will choose from a whole range of different designs. The one they showed might not be the best. Their vagina demo was pretty pathetic. They could have used a proper medical model. Their hand job demonstrated very little, and the pessary ended up vertical, which it is not meant to be.

I believe the doctor's understanding of pelvic support was severely limited by her inadequate understanding of how the vertical, female body carries its organs. We believe that the weight of the pelvic organs is carried not on the pelvic floor muscles but on the pubic bones where they come together at the front of the pelvis. This joint, the pubic symphysis is 2-3 inches long. The bladder and uterus sit on this bone support. There is a sharp angle at the top of the vagina which means that the vagina and bladder press backwards on the vagina, not straight down it. The pelvic floor stabilises this arrangement at the back. The lower abdominal wall stabilises it at the front.

All a woman has to do to upset this arrangement is to hold her tummy in and tuck her butt under. This will tip her pelvis backwards by up to 90 degrees and make her body just as the doctor described (as normal) and set her up for pelvic organ prolapse.

If you wanted to learn to drive, would you ask a panel beater to teach you?

Sorry if I seem a bit critical. I am not critical of you for asking, but critical of poorly put together TV programs that misinform by omission as well as by inaccuracy.

Thank you Louise, you know there is so much information going around on prolapse it is unbelievable, to be honest I somehow feel let down.. yes you are right.
