I have a new gynecologist..and had to share her thoughts

Body:

I just wanted to share with you that I have a new gynecologist (she's not "new".. lol.. just new to me as my former gyne has retired). During my annual exam (pap smear, breast exam, etc. ) she commented on my cystocele and said that it was quite large and would I be interested in surgery. I said "no thanks". She told me that it would be a matter of time before I re-considered and that I would know when the time was right. So I asked her to tell me about the surgery, knowing that I still was not going to change my mind. She told me that I would not benefit from the sling, but that a standard A & P would help me.
I told that I had heard that the surgery was only 60 percent successful.. (which is what a urogynecologist told me last year when I went through pelvic floor evaluation).
She replied with the surgery was successful ....but then she did add that it would last five years at which time another surgery would be needed.
I am only 52.. why on earth would I want to continue to schedule surgery every five years?
I am so grateful for this site that it has given me so much information that I don't have to rely on my doctor as being "the expert".. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has helped me out the past three years.

Hi Mary Kay

I am so glad you see it this way. Just go with your judgement. You can change your mind a opt for surgery any time you want, but opting for Wholewoman techniques and self management is so much more difficult *after* you have had a repair.

I first got the same story from a doctor in 2004, who wanted me to have surgical repairs "within 12 months because it would get worse and need more complicated surgery later".

Seven years later I am still in one piece, and smiling quite confidently to myself. Hope you are the same.
