Cystitis Pain

Body:

Hi there. I'm a 35 year old mother of 6 with a grade 2 cystocele. I have been living with prolapse since my 4th child was born, 4 years ago. My question is on cystitis. After my 5th child was born, I have had flare ups of cystitis off and on. As long as I nurtured my prolapse with posture, loose clothing etc,, watched my fluid intake, decreased my caffeine intake etc., it was a rare occurence. About 2 weeks ago, I had a flare up that made me feel like I was in the throws of transition labour. My belly swelled up and the pain was quite severe. I got through it by taking ibuprofen, drinking lots of fluids, taking herbal teas with horsetail and hops flowers, taking cranberry capsules etc. I was better within 2 days. I just had a second flare up last night, equally as painful, because I allowed the busyness of the week distract me from drinking lots of water and nurturing my prolapse. Has anyone else had cystitis with severe pain and could you give me any suggestions on what works for you?

Thanks so much!

Juls

Hi Juls

Sorry you are having this awful pain with cystitis. You have been a busy woman since you last posted, with extra babies.

I gather from your post that you have not taken any antibiotics, but I am wondering if there is some infection lurking in there, which might really give you some trouble. Making the symptoms settle as you have is a good move, but I have always found that eventually I have needed antibiotics to clear it up properly. Not nice, but a pragmatic solution.

I haven't had one of these incidents for many years now, but it did take some time for the last one to settle, even after antibiotics. I think there was also some thrush involved from the beginning, which complicated it further, and gave me so much inflammation in my pelvis. Of course the antibiotics allowed the thrush to take over, and I ended up doing a very limited diet for a week or so, eliminating any processed foods, and simple carbs to keep my blood sugar steady, and allow my body to deal with it. I used two different types of thrush cream as well. I also followed up with a month ourse of probiotics. All those things together seemed to fix it and I have not been bothered by either, since then.

I do hope this last attack has settled and that you are recovering.

Thanks Louise! I was hoping to avoid antibiotics as they put my system in such a mess. I will take them if it persists though. :) I am on the mend but time will tell! And, yes, I have had 2 more babies since I first registered with WW. :) It's true you can still have babies with prolapse. It hasn't worsened much. My lifestyle is what truly affects my prolapse more than my pregnancies. I do have a mild rectocele now but that happened after I tried to use a pessary! I am busy, but I need to learn to take care of myself and my prolapse more! :) Thanks again!
