Body:

Hi everyone
- been away from the site for some time but good to be back and to read of the ongoing support and many varied stories.

I am trying to gather information from` women who have had rectocle surgery - my mission being to return to the hospital i went to and discuss the disadvantages in depth!

Please contact with positive or negative feedback

Thanks

Blissed out

Hi Blissedout

No, I haven't had this surgery. I am just wondering what you hope to find out at the hospital? Or are you aiming to educate them?

Louise

Hi Louiseds,I know Louiseds, Blissed out will have trouble with rectocele surgery coming back as a close friend of mine had it done in Australia and now it has only come back again.I am 63 and first had the same as Blissed out or similar and i will not let doctors touch me.I have managed to stay away from dangerous surgery for eight years amd manage okay.I now walk eveyday and i do some yoga from Christine's book to manage my symtoms as i often get a bit of a bulge after walking but it always goes away now.Always do exercise and try to keep your weight down. That goes for all of us.Of couse we eat more in the holidays and Christmas.

The new format threw me at first so i asked on another page if you received my card from Australia wishing you a merry xmas. There is a lovely big kangaroo on it.

I have been to Tintagel in 1991 to visit my husbands parents and family.I have a photo of me at the top near King Arthurs Castle. It was a long way to the top but i made it.I didn't have any thing wrong then but i had some spotting.I was in my fourties then.Do You live in Britain?

Dear Blissed Out,

I think doing this survey is a great thing to do, not only for yourself, but for others.

No, I have not had any pelvic surgery and my choice is to exercise daily and eat a diet that is easily digestible.

Am looking forward to your results, that I may pass them on to some that are pro surgery.

Again not my choice, and am happy and most likely better for that!

Best wishes,

Oceanblue

hi
Thanks for your reply - not sure if you mean that you had the surgery or not or that you had a rectocele and avoided an op? If the latter - congratulations! perhaps your friend could get in touch?

I have learned the hard way as has another 'sister' I have often communicated with and never a day passes without deeply regretting my decision to opt for the scalpel, as for me it has caused many problems- discomfort and of course psychological repercussions. I want to discover if there are more of us and take my findings back to the hospital whose blase attitude to my complaint procedure in 2010, beggars belief - their total lack of understanding about the emotional aspects of being a woman alone is unnacceptable - they must be educated!. I am compelled to discuss this with them before my 3 yeqars post op experience expires and hopefully to enlighten them about the deep damage they are potentially creating as they carve women up!
( i also feel that the many variables in women are completely overlooked - eg, i had a minor cystocele which was left, but was 'uuncushioned by the 'correcting' of the rectocele bulge - my discomfort, together with vaginal/rectal pain is 1,000 times more than pre op. i made the decision on the basis of prevention - a joke as they gave me something much much worse! They need to be persuded that good outcomes/ feedback data over a period of one/two years is essential so that women considering this can be forewarned.

I believe in the laws of karma and feel that i could well be paying some off via this scenario
and would be interested to hear of other opinions regarding this aspect of 'human suffering'

warmest wishes

Hi Loiuse

Please read comment to previous post - just trying to discover whether my problems are experienced by many or just a minority! I really cannot walk away from this experience without telling the surgeons in question exactly what I feel and hopefully by doing so, at least to raise some awareness in their 'empirical' model mind sets that methods must be re-evaluated. and stopped!

( if anyone can tell me how to spell check and correct txt pre send, please let me know - many unfortunate errors noted!)

Go for it, BlissedOut. It is a pity more women don't speak up and get these people to see the reality of what they are doing to others in the name of 'medicine' and 'making people's lives better'.

I have avoided surgery and at 63 am a lot better than i was at 56 when i had my prolapse.I am not saying there is no pain but i manage with some exercise and eating the right foods.I only eat some fish and the rest is beans and wholemeal bread, pulses and vegetables. All the vegetarian foods and dishes are great to eat and i feel less worried about not having surgery to please the doctors.

Sorry I've been away and have only just seen your comment. Yes, I am English and chose my name because we go to Cornwall most years and just love the place, it is so beautiful. I think you are new to this forum, I joined about 8 months ago, when I first discovered my prolapse, and have found such wonderful help here. I'm sure you will too.
Take care

Hi Cleo,

Thank you so much for the lovely kangaroo card you sent me. I hope we have been able to help answer your questions and that you are feeling better and more confident in your own ability to live well as you reduce your symptoms with the Whole Woman work.

Wishing you well,

Christine

hi
many thanks for your reply - would it be possible to get your friend with the recurring rectocele to contact me? Too late, I now realise that diet/exercise is the answer - a blip made me go for surgery - what a lesson - it was working for me too!

Good wishes

I had these 3 surgeries 4 weeks ago. All going pretty well except for cystocele. I have random leakage I had before the surgery plus can't hold it well when I need to go which is worse than before surgery. I am discouraged and depressed about this. My bladder seems to be where it belongs as far as I can tell. I can't understand why I am not better. Drs appointment in two weeks. Anyone out there in this stage of recovery ?

Hi mmksam - most of the women who frequent this forum are those who are attempting to avoid surgeries. Which doesn't necessarily mean that you won't get any responses.....there are post-surgical members as well. Good luck and hope you feel better - Surviving

mmksam

Just finished reading your post. I'm post-menopausal in my mid-sixties and don't have children. Discovered my prolapse fairly recently. Had been doing too much heavy lifting caregiving for my husband. Not sure what kind of prolapse it is (I freak out when I look in the mirror trying to compare it to pics online) :( So I go to see a gyn soon for the ''formal'' diagnosis. I don't wish for surgery (of any kind) and will be polite, but will not let them try to persuade me otherwise! So was just wondering whether the surgeon who performed your surgery bothered to explain why you ''had'' to have it? - Or what would happen if ''you didn't have it''? Did you ever consider getting a 2nd opinion? Were you ever given the option of using a pessary? And sorry for pushing the issue, but what kind of procedure did you get? Was it a ''mesh'' or ''sling''? Did they take the trouble to explain future consequences of this kind of procedure? And lastly, how are you doing now and has there been any improvement as far as your Cystocele is concerned?

Sorry for so many questions. I believe it's important that we share experiences and it is of great help to other women.

Hi Sevilla - if you click on Mmksam's profile, you'll see that she has not posted again since she wrote this six months ago. There's always a chance she'll come back on and see your post, but it's unlikely. - Surviving

Yes, I did notice that she'd posted back in March of this year. Oh well, perhaps she'll check back from time to time. If not, never mind.
