systematic Evidence Review of alternative therapies for menopause symptoms

Body:

I found this article tonight, http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/reprint/166/14/1453.pdf . If you are exploring alternatives to HRT for menopause symptoms this paper might have interesting info in it.

Can't post a new topic, so here goes under this one.

I had an interesting, if rather unpleasant experience yesterday. In the morning I didn't have my red clover tea, and I didn't have my regular dexamphetamine (for ADD). Why? Because I have ADD, silly! That's what happens sometimes.

I had a really foggy morning, in spite of getting plenty of sleep. For my own reasons, I got out of bed with a black cloud over my head. I had breakfast, but didn't feel like lunch. By 1pm I was yawning my head off, and feeling very weary, so I went and had a sleep for a couple of hours, experiencing deep and vivid dreams. I felt like something the cat dragged in when I awoke, and just couldn't wake up. I struggled through the rest of the afternoon and evening, managing to do some cooking along the way, thinking it would snap me out of it, which it didn't. I had hot flushes all through the morning and evening, but seemed fine while I was asleep.

The results of the cooking have been yummy, in spite of the bad spirit in which the cooking was done.

After my sleep I thought I would be bright and breezy for my WW teacher training class, which doesn't start until 10.30pm, but I yawned my way through that too. I hope it didn't show too much.

I have skipped my dex before, but never skipped red clover on the same day. I think I might have just experienced one of those nightmare menopause days that have been largely absent from my menopause experience.

Back to the dex and red clover today, first thing! I feel quite OK today.

Moon watchers, we also had a total lunar eclipse last night, so the sun, earth and full moon were all lined up. It was an awesome experience, seeing the moon going a deep, rusty brown on a bright star-lit night. Did that have something to do with it? I do confess that I felt somewhat like the Wicked Witch of Western Australia all yesterday. Even DH kept his distance, poor darling, though I think he had something to do with why I got out of bed in a foul mood, and I think he knew it! The moon had emerged all clean and creamy coloured again by the time I hit the sack around midnight. It felt good to see her back to her old self.

I am also recovering from a nasty wog too, which has left its mark on my respiratory and digestive system. Maybe it was just the final stroke of the cane from the virus?

Comments, anyone?

Sounds like a perfect storm for feeling out of sorts -- missed meds routine, lunar activity, recovery from a virus, residual menopause symptoms, DH misbehavior ... Gosh, the moon especially was wired last night/tonight. I wasn't aware of an eclipse in my area, but was blown away by the bright full moon tonight. I sometimes have days like this too, though without the same contributory factors. I think it is just living animal type thing -- I can imagine a dog taking the day to "lie low." I think all creatures need little re-boot now and then. Especially those of us with vigorous health as the norm -- we can override lot of stress, but how awesome that our bodies signal for what they need to recover. Glad you are feeling better :-)

Thanks BadMirror. It is nice to get reassurance. :-)And it is nice to be albe give myself the freedom to listen to my body, instead of soldiering on . I am indeed fortunate.

If that's the worst storm that the Creator can stir up for me I think I am doing OK. Yes, going into a cave and licking your wounds does pay off, even if it only spares those around us from the wrath of the storm. ;-) I might just write myself a Contingency list in case the storm returns.

Just to add to alternative treatments, I have been using cicatridine and I am finding it helpful. Ivonush
