need advice to relieve painful burning after biopsy

Body:

I have been waiting about 6 months for irritation from infections and the harsh medications used for that to quit so that I could look at getting a pessary. My uro-gyn appointment was last Wed. A few days before the appt I began spotting. I had my last period about 8 years ago, so this somewhat frightened me. I, also, began burning somewhat. When I went to the appt, the Dr. found another yeast infection and blood around my cervix. She prescribed 2 doses Diflucan and did a cervical and uterine biopsy on Friday. I wasn't prepared for the pain of the pressure inside my uterus (why don't they give you something to deaden the pain?!) Anyway, Fri and Sat was just spotting, though blood was bright red, with cramping. Since Sun cramping is gone but bleeding is more like a menstrual flow. I talked to the PA yesterday when I went back for an ultra sound. She said it's normal to bleed for a few days. I have, also, begun to have burning (mostly on the outside). I think it's from the irritation of the pad. The PA said to take a couple of Motrin or Aleve. They do nothing! I've read sitz baths help. What would I use in that? Am not supposed to use anything (like soap or fragrance) that might be an irritant. She said just water. This evening I tore up an old soft t-shirtto use instead of a pad, but it's still REALLY uncomfortable. And - I'm anxious because the results won't be in on the tests for several more days. I know the bleeding from the cervix can be lots of different things, not just cancer. But-the uncertainty, plus this burning raw open feeling is making me really edgy. Would like any advice for something to help the burning so I can relax.

Oh Lilyrose, I'm sorry to hear you are suffering so. I hope we as a group of women are one of these days able to see that such a terrible arsenal used on the human body is not a path to health. Of course you need stronger pain relief, but the system doesn't dole out effective pain medication as generously as it does harsh and risky medications.

Aspirin is a quality anti-inflammatory, unlike the others you mentioned. Omega 3 oil (here in the States we can get DHA/flax oil) also has effective anti-inflammatory actions and can be used topically as well as internally. Natural honey is extremely healing.

Hope you feel better soon.

Christine

Thanks Christine. Took 3 asprin about an hour ago Hasn't dulled the pain. Can't go to sleep yet. Will get my bag of frozen peas and try again.

Hi lilyrose,
So sorry to hear you're going through such a trying time. I do hope your symptoms ease with a little time and some of the things you're trying. You may find it helpful to try a little relaxation for the mind and emotions to help you cope with what you'e going through physically. When I was going through a tough physical & mental time I found listening to some neuro-psychology & budhist based relaxation and stress relief cd's extremely helpful. I'm a big fan of Rick Hanson. (I should get some commission!) He has a great website - and you can sign up for a free 'just one minute' weekly video and a v. short food for thought 'just one thing'; jot, weekly letter. The mind - body division is an artificial division to help us describe the human condition. In reality there is a close inter-woven relationship between the mind and the body. So calming the mind will help you feel better - and more able to cope.
Thinking of you, xwholewomanuk

I'll look for the Rick Hanson DVD. Thanks. Did, finally, go to sleep last night. Bleeding has lessened today, so I think my mind is in a better place. I read up of Diflucan. Had 1 dose last Wed and another on Mon. Seems like a side-effect is burning. The build-up of whatever is in it has probably caused this + the irritation of wearing pads. My cystocele may be low enough to rub somewhat and/or the outer parts are really tired of all this medication and are screaming "STOP". I go back and forth about being worried about the test results.

wear a dark colored skirt, sit on a towel. Just don't wear anything at all that will rub.
For a sitz bath, use epsom salt or sea salt. Not too strong- if it burns your eyes it's probably too strong.
Comfry herb is soothing in a sitz bath as well.
Sorry you had to have that painful procedure. Glad it's over!
As far as the yeast goes- you don't have to use diflucan. There are so so so many other things to do. Do you know about them? GSE, Teatree oil, garlic suppositories, sugar free, tons of probiotics and probiotic food, Apple Cider Vinegar and on and on....sunshine where the sun doesn't usually shine :)
Make some greek style yogurt and get it nice and cold and then apply it directly to the area that is burning. Relief!
Glad you are getting sleep now.

Hi lily rose,
I had a similar experience for most December last year, though certainly not as complex as yours seems to be.
None of the doctors were really of any help, I just had to work it out for myself. In the end I believe I just had a really nasty uti, that left me with a very irritated bladder, that seemed to flare when anything disturbed the vagina ie. sex, physical examination, vaginal weights.

So I decided to just leave the area alone for a while. I drank apple cider vinegar in water to during the day, tried to alkalise my diet, no caffeine and very little sugar. I also drank herbal teas. goldenrod tea helped me.
I did take some colloidal silver...but here I caution anyone to make sure the product is of very reputable quality and made correctly- please do your own research on this topic. I also took a good probiotic nightly
My husband was understanding, and we got creative, sex can be about so much more than penetration.
The irritation eventually abated, but it does hint at flaring sometimes, so apple cider vinegar always on hand which seems to knock it over, and colloidal silver.
I hope this is of some help to you. My heart goes out or you because I know how distracting and uncomfortable it is, but it will pass.

I'm not sleeping with the pad. Just using some soft T-shirt material loosely wrapped there. Really not bleeding much, but it seems like it maybe because my last period was 8 years ago - thought this was over. Am I right in thinking thinking this should stop soon???
Tried Christine's raw honey idea last night. Almost immediately the burn went away. Burning some now, so will use again tonight, after a bath in the epsom salts my husband went out for earlier.
Found red clover tea at the local natural market. Also, got garlic and some kind of something to rid your body from fungus. Want to stop this in it's tracks. Doesn't the vinegar taste horrible? Guess that's better than this. Will go back next week and ask about the collidal silver. I know I should cut out sugar, but it's in nearly everything. Have stocked up on sugar-free yogurt and some plain (for cool relief).
My husband has been very supportive, but it has to be getting old - trips to the Dr. and me sitting most of the time. My mind has been better the last couple of days. Am headed to grand-daughter's 2nd birthday weekend tomorrow. They live out-of-state; will come back Sun. Then, daughter who lives closer is bringing her 2 children (one is 8 and the other 18 months) on Mon till Tues. SO - I'll have plenty of distractions till I go back to Dr. on Wed. I, almost, think they ganged up with my husband to plan this so I wouldn't have time to fret so much. Thanks for the great ideas. Just having someone listen helps alot!
