The long long long long walk

Body:

Everything that can possibly be said about the benefits of walking has already been said so many times on this forum. But I don't care! I went on a 3-hour trail walk this morning, and I can honestly say that my 'celes haven't felt this good in 2 years! Here it is 5 or 6 hours later, and I still feel great.

I took me awhile to make up my mind about walking. In the early days, some walks seemed to make my symptoms worse. In those days I think that my posture was more forced; I didn't really "own" it yet.; Now it has become truly natural and normal and my hips have settled into their proper positions in a way that really didn't happen during that first year on WW. Sometimes, too, I was probably walking too fast and not really observing all the rules (take long deliberate strides, keep back foot on the ground as long as possible, all of that).

Lots of long walks in excellent posture is really what got me over the hurdle of "getting" the posture. After that, the benefits were so much greater. It could have happened SO much earlier if I had not put it off.

So, newbies, walk all you can and pay attention to every aspect of posture. You will make WW posture your own so much more quickly if you do this, and you WILL see improvement. - Surviving

Forum:

This is such a lovely post! I am 5 weeks WW now and I believe the walk is key to everything....a time when all of that attention is there on growing our WW posture. Thank you for all of your encouragement!

Thank-you~ a lovely inspiring post. Let's keep walking and breathing :)

I have avoided walking any distance since I had the bulge - still have not walked any more than I have to. So - you are saying that I should get out and walk and concentrate on the posture. I think I have it then realise my tummy muscles are tight again. 70 years of hold in that stomach and tuck in your bottom are hard to shake. - OK - tomorrow is W day - walk day -- I used to love walking along the beach - I know the sand is harder to walk on but it is softer than pavement. Watch this space - I will let you know how I get on. cheers from a chilly NZ elcie

I avoided walking at first, but one day I decided to take a risk and walked around 7 miles. Felt great afterwards! Since then I added walking to one of my main strategies. I tend to walk much slower than I used to...
Apart from physical exercise it helps me with distracting myself as i love observing the nature...

That is great that you are getting out in winter in New Zealand, to go walking on the beach. Don't go at it too hard for a start. Take it slowly, and just get your posture working for you.

I think of beach walking as being like walking uphill, and there is nothing better than walking up hill for getting your posture working, and strengthening your legs and hips.

Hi Surviving6o.
Thank you so much for posting such a positive inspirational post. Like the news it's easy for the postives to be overlooked or unsaid - and it's so helpful to have the balance.
I love walking too. I've recelty joined a walking group one evening a week. I often don't feel like going, but once I'm walking on the hills - I feel soooo much better in every way. And to think less than 2 years ago I could harldy walk!

Hi Lindy

I can hardly believe, after meeting you in Albuquerque, that you were so debilitated by your prolapses only a couple of years ago. It really is amazing how much our lives, our bodies and our demeanour can change with Wholewoman methods.
