Whole Woman Canadian Retreat

Body:

I am just putting my tendrils out there, but are there any Canadians, or anyone else really, that would be interested in having Christine speak in Canada? According the the list in front of me, there are over 550 of you here. I just got to thinking that we only had one Canadian come for the conference, and you all a good chunk of our ladies here in the forum.

I am thinking that we meet somewhere beautiful and do some hands on posture work outside doing all those things that you active Canadians do. In Alberta maybe? We have a ton of women from there, and its stunning.

Please give me some feedback on this.

Thanks!

Hello Dear Amy, I love the idea of a retreat! If the Canadian's are not responding...how about something in New England? Vermont, New Hampshire, Cape Cod ??? My best to you!

I second that suggestion from our cellist sister!! - Surviving

... But I need someone to host it. It's hard to plan something from that far away, so our hope was to find someone to organize it, possibly even as a small business venture, and then have CK come and speak. There is a huge number of WW people on the eastern seaboard and they all want something closer to them than NM is. When I was planning the conference, I heard that all the time.

-Amy

Hmmmm. I haven't ever planned something like that....only concerts and such. How many people do we have on the eastern seaboard and where are they mostly located? I am a bit shocked we haven't been getting any responses from this post....maybe in a bit more time. Would love to know how many would be interested and where might be the most central spot for all of us New Englanders.

I'm from Canada and just logged on tonight for the first time! I would love a retreat in Canada or somewhere close to the west coast of the US.

Well, I know that we get tons of calls from New Jersey, and I just typed NY into our database and came up with 8 full pages of names. Maybe upstate New York? I've always wanted to go to Maine. The thing is with a retreat I am guessing people will drive a couple hours to go somewhere pretty. After the weekend I will have more definite numbers for you. I can say that based on the mapping I did for women interested in teacher training, North East PA is very central.

Oh great! We are working on this as an idea. We need the numbers to make it work. Where do you live 51?

A beautiful place is coming to mind for that NY NJ CT MA PA area. Check out the web site for Mohonk Mountain House. I know the inn and the walking trails quite well. However, I will wait to hear back from you on where the most numbers are coming from. Maine is lovely, as are Vermont and New Hampshire as well. I am sure we can find a grand nature-filled spot to meet once we get the data! You have a lovely day!

Oh my goodness that place is beautiful, and judging by the lack of rates on the website, probably very expensive. I called the reservation office and left a message to be sure. As far as the numbers go, I have at least 12 women interested in teacher training in that area, and most of them are in north VA or in southeast PA. We also have a WW teacher in PA, and one in NY. I think it is also safe to bet that if you do this in New England, you will get a fair amount of women from Ontario, which has 6 interested teachers. These numbers do not include our customer base, which is harder to quantify. For some reason our system doesn't allow us to sort by location. So if I put in "NY" in a search button, not only do I get women from NY, but I also get all the Sonyas out there bc the NY is in their name. I think the best way to go about this is to send out a mailing to everyone (maybe include it in the newsletter) and ask them to respond to me if they are interested. I can tally those names and phone numbers too.

Here's the rough estimate as far as I can tell from the last year: As far as customers go, we have 32 in NJ, and it seems that the other state abbreviations are too common in names or addresses to really quantify.

Tell me what you think about the mass email.

Hello Dear Amy, I think the mass email and also a post again to the forum to let the people in this area know that we have this in the "thinking" stage and in order to progress, we need to know numbers. I am happy to call Mohonk since I have been there on several special occasions....I can at least get a rough idea of costs for the various seasons.....if you would like me to. Wow....maybe we can make this work!

Hello Amy and all others interested in a North-eastern retreat! Forgive me for posting again, but I want to keep this thought alive in our forum. Maybe a few of us from this area could join forces to organize this ? Any interested people? Amy - whenever we have numbers, I will call and try to barter for a beautiful price for such a location....maybe during one of their offseason times. Or, I can search out another beautiful location when we know where the majority are driving from. Mohonk for me is about 6+ hours to drive....very do-able! Ladies?

I would love to attend a retreat. Originally am from N.Y. - now living in southwest Florida. I can hop a plane to N.Y. and Florida would be great too. Yes, keeping this idea alive interests me greatly. I have so enjoyed this forum and it has helped me tremendously. Thanks MsNightingale for mentioning this again.

I know Mohonk well. I lived in New York and vacationed near there. It is beautiful but rather pricey. However, I am not familiar with their present rates. It reminds me of Switzerland. It is in the New Paltz, New York area very close to the Catskill Mts. I think a WW Conference in the Northeast Region would be super. I live in Vermont and the Stowe area is very popular for retreats and conferences the Von Trapps' have a resort center there. With the old saying "if you build it they will come." It is just a matter of finding the right place. The interest is there.

I would be interested in something in New England as I live in Southeastern Connecticut.

Hello Dear NFP The Stowe area and the Von Trapp resort would also be wonderful. Do you know anything about pricing? I think if we keep this thread going long enough, we will assemble a rather large group of women willing to drive however far it takes. I so agree with your statement....build and they will come! Thank you for responding.

I sent off the mass email to be sent out though our email system. I'll check on it to see what happened. I'll get our numbers ladies. We are all scrambling for ideas....we are even fast tracking a new product.

I'm so excited! Way to take it on Msnightengale

Hello Amy !! This is so exciting....just let me know what I can do and when I should be doing it?

Hi every one - especially MsNightingale-

We just had a marketing meeting, and here are our thoughts about coming to the east coast.

I had originally said that I would send out a mass mailing asking for people who would be interested in coming out. I then learned that each time we mail a big email like that, we get a lot of people of opt off our list. We would rather have an actual event that people can have specifics for- ie when, what, where and how much, and then we will market it to high heaven.

If we could put something together for Late August through the end of November, that would best fit Christine's schedule. I know that the winters can be full of snow, so that's why I was thinking either then or in the following spring. It also fits into our production schedule for our new videos!

Or you tell me what works and I will bring it to the table.

So, if you could come up with a date, and figure out how much you would charge and give me some travel details, then I can send it out. Basically I need a mock-up of an event. If anyone wants to hash this out some more, email me @ [email protected].

Let me know what you think.

Might I recommend that we start looking at some less grand places so it is accessible to more people? I've been getting that feedback via email in response to this thread. There has to be some lodge in the mountains or something.

The best time financially to hold a conference in the Northeast would be early November before the Holidays and the snow. Prices are usually at their best then. Financially I have found late winter early spring - March early April to be good. However, it was said that Nov. would work for Christine. In reference to Curly Whirly Amy's post .. Lake Morey would be one of those places in the Green Mountains with a conference center. The big decision is to decide on an area and then scout it out. Another area comes to mind and that is Plattsburgh, NY it has reasonably priced air flights to Toronto and is within easy driving distance to Montreal. it is also accessible to folks in New England by car or plane.

Do you know of any actual places in either Lake Morey area or Plattsburgh that might be lovely but rustic and inexpensive where we might gather some 50-100 people or so? I just checked the Lake Morey area and some pretty fancy places come up there too. How about some cabins in the woods with a community kitchen. I imagine that Vermont would have some beauty places like that. Do you have any suggestions?

There is a conference center in Lake Morey that I used for a marriage retreat. I have also used conference centers in Stowe, Vermont. They are very nice but I don't think as conveniently located as the Plattsburg area, especially for our Canadian neighbors. I am going golfing this afternoon in the Lake Champlain Islands, which is pretty close to Plattsburg, which is accross Lake Champlain on the New York side. I can check out what's available in the Islands for a conference center. If we look at early November the rates will always be better. Plattsburg has a small international airport which has reasonably priced flights that serve Canada, North Carolina and Florida. I am not as familiar with conference or retreat centers in Plattsburg but I can check that out if interested.

Sounds great if you want to check this out. I look forward to hearing what might be reasonable and suitable. I am looking into something as well in NH but it wont be as accessable as what you are describing.

Lovely idea! Mohonk is very beautiful & very pricey! Did you think of Omega (eomega.org) in Rhinebeck, NY?

THanks ananda, I know Omega but for some reason didn't even think of it. I will check it out!

I live in Delaware and I would love to go to a conference here on the east coast. Keep us informed ;)

Hi There,

I actually found a conference center run by State University of NY at Plattsburgh. I did a search on Conference Centers Plattsburgh NY and Valcour Conference Center came up. They are also on facebook. It seems to be centrally located to Canada, New England and Northeastern States. They also state they have winter rates Nov. 1 to March 31st on their web page and to call for details. Their e-mail is [email protected]
It might be worth putting it into conference options for the Northeast.

Let me become a teacher and I would gladly hold a conference. ;-)

Check out the teacher training page! - Surviving

I am looking at places in Vermont, which to me is centraly located between al of us on the east coast of Canada and U.S

have requested info from the Sheraton Burlington in New Hampshire.

Yep Yep, my application should be on their desk as we speak! Totally excited.

For teacher training???

I love your enthusiasm! I wanted to get a retreat organized in New England but couldn't find the time to work it all out. I am happy to help you if you decide to take this on! Best Wishes to you!

GULP........... well all I can do is try right? and all of you would help right?? RIGHT?? LOL

I have no idea what we would need.......

Yes!

Vermont.......Not NH

I did the big gulp too. But. Do you know Vermont well? We would be looking for a down-to-earth sort of place where maybe 40-80 or us (?) (+ or-) could gather and bring Christine in to work with us. The places I know are all too fancy and expensive and I have been looking for something rustic yet beautiful. Maybe we can ask that anyone in VT or NH or NY or ME keep there eyes open for such a place. I think that would be our start. Once we find the place we can figure it out from there:) Best wishes.

I don't know Vermont at all, but, have a look at this http://www.starwoodhotels.com

October mid-week: $169.00 (average rate)

October weekend: $189.00 (rough estimate)

November: $119 to 129.00 (average rate)

November weekend: $139.00 (rough estimate)

Somewhere in the first 2 weeks of November to take advantage of that cheaper rate. I think it would be a fabulous place.

Comments?

Though I'm interested in the idea of attending a ww conference, I live in southern Illinois. Just wondering how many others are from this part of the country, the Midwest. I benefit greatly from this website and have ordered the book and two DVD's, but I'm somewhat overwhelmed with all of the information. I'm so tired of dealing with the prolapse and rectal issues, so I'd consider getting together with others to learn and share, anything to get help.

That is great that you ordered the book and DVDs. I too was overwhelmed in the beginning. You might even find that the book is a bit overwhelming, but what I have done, is just read a page or two each night and then reread it again until it begins to sink in. There is so much information in it. the DVDs are very clear and you should just do as much as you are comfortable with....go little by little. You will notice how in a relatively short time, strength, balance and understanding will come. I still have not found a location for a New England conference but I know that I will in time. I hope you get some response from ladies in the midwest. I agree with you....to get some face to face guidance will be ever so helpful. Best wishes to you!

hi all,

love the enthusiasm! as you may or may not be aware, amy has moved on and i'm picking up the threads. i've discussed this with christine and she's willing to consider coming east, but there is not a lot of time if this is going to happen in early nov. and there are many issues to be worked out.

what we do not have the bandwidth for is putting on a conference like the one in may here in albuquerque. what is possible would be a weekend, say arrive friday nite, work together saturday all day and sunday until noon and give most people a chance to get home sunday night. what we would need is a flat fee for christine's time, obviously we would do the e-mailings and web announcement, we could even collect the money through our online system. what we don't have time, energy or capital for is making a financial commitment to a hotel for a block of rooms, food arrangements or any logistics.

it seems to me there are two things we need to do first. one is have a conference call with anyone who has the time, energy and is willing to put some skin in the game in dealing with the resort/conference center so we can talk through the mechanics. second is get a mailing out early next week and see who's interested and prepared to put down a deposit. i am willing to do that, if i feel like we have a team together that can and will help get this organized.

i don't mean to sound negative at all. i'd love to see it happen. but i know from experience there are a million details that someone needs to be prepared to handle. for example, women who need to or are willing to share a room or who need to find a cheaper facility down the road. questions about what to wear what to bring, dietary quirks. the list goes on.

so if you are interested in participating in the management of such an event, please drop me a note. my email address is on the site contacts page (www.wholewoman.com/newpages/contact.html). let me know your interest and let's see if we can organize a conference call sometime monday or tues.

i'd love to see this happen. let's see if we can figure out how. thanks!

lanny (christine's DH)

Where did she go?

What about setting up a conference Skype Call? That way no one has to put out a large sum of money and we all get the info that we may be looking for.

Hi all you lovelies; I live in Ontario and am pleased to find there are 550 canadian women using this informative site which I found 3 mos. ago and have been doing the posture and exercises since which appear to be improving my prolapse symtoms, HURRAY! I would be interested in attending a conference in Nov. if it can be arranged. Keep up the good work.......love to all

Hellooooo from the east coast of New Brunswick! Do you know where these beautiful women are located? Just curious.

Thank you, MsNightingale for responding. I really appreciate your encouragement. I see my gynecologist next month for my yearly exam. As much as I appreciate my doctor (I've been her patient for about 30 years!), I have mixed feelings about seeing her this time. Since I'm learning so much from WW and realize that her only option for me seems to be surgery, I'm not looking forward to the visit. She is extremely qualified and sent me to a urogynecologist for a second opinion, but his only option for me was a hysterectomy. Before I found WW, I thought surgery was my only option, but now I know that this is not what I want. However, I certainly don't like the constant discomfort that comes with the prolapse and the rectal issues. This is why I'd like to meet with others from WW and listen to Christine in person. I think it would be very helpful. Again, thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. (Sorry that I get a little wordy!!)

Hi Teacher - you are right, it would be a perfect world if we could all get together and learn from each other in person. But we are scattered all over the world. The lucky ones are near a teacher, or able to travel to a teacher. But most of us don't fall in that category. You can get a personal consultation with Christine or a teacher if you want to pursue that. But I wouldn't sit around waiting to see if someone is going to organize a Whole Woman event. Most of us learned everything we know from Christine's remarkable body of work, and this website and forum. It's all about posture, and if you aren't doing it already, every waking hour, then you'd best get going and kick your routine up a notch!! Good luck to you! - Surviving

I really appreciate your input, Surviving! A personal consult with Christine might help me most of all. I hadn't thought of that. I am trying to do the posture, but it's hard to change old habits. I am conscious of it, however. I also go to the gym and ride a stationary bike and walk a few laps four or five days a week. I do have back issues, so I'm not sure I'm helping or hurting. Wanting to do the best for my health and dealing with lots of issues is very challenging and overwhelming at 63, but I'm determined to keep trying! Thanks again! I'm so grateful for this forum and for people like you who are willing to share to help others. God bless you!

Ditto!
