it's been a long time and diverticulitis antibiotics nausea and yeast

Body:

'evening all...

it's been a very long time since i have posted...
i have been reading off and on for a while...

i went to the er 2 1/2 weeks ago with what
i thought was appendicitis.....most of the pain
and fever were the day/night before i went..
doc took urine culture ...said infected
...gave me keflex and wanted to send me on my
way...

i hesitated and asked to be checked further..
ultrasound found some free fluid....so i was
then given a transvaginal ultrasound to look at
my ovaries which apparently were so shriveled and
small they could not be seen but there were no masses
etc.Thank God......

it was awkward with *loretta* and the transvaginal
scan but the technician was able to insert it...and
do the scan...

ct scan later diagnosed diverticulitis with inflammation
which was the cause of the fluid...and everything
else checked out okay on that too....

10 days of cipro/flagyl.....liquid diet only for the lst
6 days.....still on low residue diet now..
i finished the antibiotics a week ago today..
however i now have a yeast infection and terrible
intermittent nausea which my chiro diagnosed as
dyspepsia/gastritis.....those meds have really wreaked
havoc on my system which is delicate to begin with..
should i get the same stomach bug that others recovery
from in 2 days...it takes me 2 weeks to catch up...

i have never had this amount or type of antibiotics
in my almost 65 years on this lovely planet...ugh!!

i have had ibs for forever but this nausea and dd are a new twist for me...

i tried monistat otc last night but the burning was horrific...
pharmacist said this can be normal but i am going to skip
tonight and contact doctor tomorrow for his opinion...

there is so much going on between my waist and my knees
i just don't know what to attend to first....

i have been on a low sodium diet for the past two years
for kidney stones/which btw the ct scan didn't show any..
which i was very grateful for....

of course loretta which i am using ww posture for...

the ibs...the diverticulitis and now the yeast...

i guess i am just looking for some *girlfriend* advice
and/or love.....i just feel wretched....this has been
a really hard year emotionally for me and i do believe
that has been the root of all this...

thanks for listening...

Hi Susan

We haven't heard from you for a while. I had forgotten about your friend Loretta. Still staying at your place, eh?

It sounds to me like you need a course of probiotics, and some fermented foods to get your system populated again with the right types of bugs. Antibiotics are like spraying your garden with Roundup to clear up a few weeds. All it does is decrease the competition for the really aggressive weeds, and you end up worse off in the long run. What is needed is a good strong green manure crop to smother those big weeds.

I can't male any specific recommendations, but a long course would probably be better than a short course. Maybe go for a couple of different types one after the other. It might take a few months to get over this completely.

It would probably be worth taking any refined carbs and high glycaemic foods out of your diet for a couple of weeks, and introduce lots of unprocessed foods to let your blood sugar levels even out a bit.

Remember kombucha, unsweetened yoghurt, sauerkraut, beer and wine. Lots of other fermented foods as well?

Louise

Anyone got any?

hi louise...

thanks for remembering me and loretta! she is
staying pretty much tolerable thank goodness!
thanks to all the posture changes i have made and
continue on a daily basis....sometimes when other things
get in the way....she does remind me she is alive and well!

thanks for the tips....right at the moment i am on a
low residue diet to recover from the diverticulitis so
i am thinking this type of eating might have to wait
a bit aside from the yogurt....

doc just ordered diflucan for the yeast but i am hesitant
to take yet another medication when my stomach is still
reeling and reacting to all the antibiotics affecting it and
my *beloved* ibs.....so i guess i will continue with the
monistat .....just wondering why it burned so when i applied
it....?

pretty confusing to me but i am garnering lots of
education...albeit previously unwanted :-)

looking forward to hearing of any other advice
someone may have...

thanks again louise...

Does Diflucan have the same active ingredient to the Monistat? I know there are a couple of different types of drugs for treating candida. I changed to the other type when I was having trouble getting rid of the last one I had, and the thrush went away quite quickly, leaving only inflammation, which took a while to subside. I suggest that you ask your pharmacist about drugs. They know a lot more than doctors about pharmaceuticals.

Louise

diflucan is an oral tablet...monistat that i used was cream that was inserted
in the vagina which burned like *hell*...

did talk to the pharmacist and she thought the pill would be
best even with my tummy concerns seeing i am still
recovering from the diverticulitis...i have one more phone
call to make before i decide and that is to my homeopathic
pharmacist ...will see what she has to offer...

will keep you posted...

thanks for the concern and look forward to any
more of yours or anyone's input...

I'm not an expert on ANY of this, but I did recently decide to take a course of probiotics. I haven't done any antibiotics in as long as I can remember.....I'm doing this more because I don't get enough of this stuff from my diet, so I thought I'd do 30 or 60 days of this, just for good measure. This is the line that I picked:
http://www.renewlife.com/ultimate-flora-probiotics.html
I picked it because it was reasonably priced, was time-released to only require one capsule per day, and especially, because there were many strains in each product.

homeopathic pharmacist gave me some probiotics
to take...i have to be soooooooooooo careful
as even the good *stuff* bothers my intestines..
just who i am....too bad the docs don't listen to me!
i used to take a mild acidolpholus (sp) for a long time
but the company went out of business and anything
stronger than what it was ..just didn't sit well with my
system... seems like my dance is a bit different than most
dances.....

the homeopathic phamacist also advised to take the
pill which my internist prescribed as did the regular
pharmacist so it is in my body *as we speak*...she also
gave me a homeopathic spray for ongoing use to keep
the yeast at bay.....for years now i have taken sprays
i have gotten from her ...one for kidney stones and one for
hypertension...i am pleased to report that when i had the
ct scan for the diverticulitis..there were NO kidney stones even
though i had a 5mm a year or so ago and i KNOW i didn't pass it...
also my blood pressure is in a good range and was not so before
the sprays and my weekly acupuncture and my walking....so i
am encouraged...

thanks again ....

it is so comforting to be *heard* and replied to...
