Hydroxyquinoline sulphate, not only Trimosan.

Body:

Hi everyone

Let's not pick exclusively on the manufacturers of Trimo-san. Aci-gel by Janssen-Cilag also contains hydroxyquinoline sulphate.

I imagine there are other products out there, which are suggested as useful when using a pessary, that contain this same active ingredient. I remember that it was suggested for me for use with the first pessary I had fitted over fifteen years ago. I have used it spasmodically ever since, particularly when I have had thrush. It also contains glacial acetic acid, so I have used it to try and acidify my vagina, which thrush does not like.

I think I will be going back to diluted vinegar douches after a shower. Can anybody tell me the correct dilution, or does it depend on the pH of the vinegar? Any food chemists out there???

Has anyone spotted any other products that contain hydroxyquinoline sulphate??

Cheers

Louise

I haven't heard of that one - perhaps trimosan is sold more here. I did notice the Milex site has been taken down. There are many comments on other boards that echo our member Amy's comment that it causes a cottage cheese-type discharge. Hope you toss it away for good.

I think you're right. The pharmaceutical companies seem to have particular markets for particular products. This one is made by Janssen-Cilag, offices in Auckland, NZ and near Sydney (part of Johnson and Johnson). They seem to operate in Europe, Central America and South-east Asia.

I am sure, though that Trimosan and Acigel are not the only products that are for use with pessaries. I googled Hydroxyquinoline sulphate and found it in a number of products. Another is an acne treatment. Rule 1, read the label, whatever you use. It may be that there are much more dangerous products out there. It is hard to say. You can't know about everything, but it doewn't hurt to investigate.

I have stopped using the Trimosan product and instead use the gel made from activated water (Miracle ll). It is supposed to be antibacterial and though it leans more toward alkaline it has been satisfactory. As long a pelvic health is good I don't expect a problem. I do remove the pessary twice a week. I no longer have the cheesy discharge I noticed while using the the commercial product. I hope to learn more about other preparations in case I may need better later.
I am really pleased with the pessary after a couple of months use. It feels good to have things in place. When I think how close I came to surgery, which was the advice I was getting from all I spoke to, I shudder and heave a sigh.
