Are you supposed to go after splinting?

Body:

Hi

I have dropped cascara to 1 tablet a day and 2 psyllium and have stopped going. So I tried splinting and felt lumps in the back wall and pushed them in and then pushed but nothing came out. Now nothing again.

What am I doing wrong? Others seem to get after pushing back but I haven't yet. Do I need to wait longer?

What do you think please?

Always wait for the peristaltic urge or feeling like things are moving ... e.g. that you have to tighten your sphincter to deter it from coming out ... so that you know things are ready to go.
It is at that time that you use the splinting ... in other words place your thumb just inside (and for me the forefinger as resistance to the perineum ... while allowing the body's urges to assist your gentle push.
The splinting is not to push things back and then push it out.
Yes definitely wait longer because without the urge you are pushing rather than the body pushing.

Splinting is not to make you go ... it is it create the old 'wall' which was intact and strong prior to the rectocele or prolapse.

Therefore where the wall has herniated, stretched, ballooned etc - there are areas for the faeces to go which cause an obstruction to the natural pathway and exit.
It can head more towards the vaginal area and for me especially in the perinium.
This usually results in pockets trapped and then causing 'incomplete evacuation'.

I repeat, splinting does not help you go, it stops the area getting congested and diverting down a no through road. Kind of like a traffic policeman.

Hi

Thanks for that. I have only been using the herbs for 1 and half months now. I read that Chloride Channel activators are safe to use for 6 months for the bowel so going to ask my doc about that. Anyone heard of them?????

I did splint last night (proberbly at the wrong time) however this morning went with straining as all those little pellets from the pouch came out a bit sore after but glad to get it out!! Yuck. Tried to bend forward at the waist and loosen stomach to help not to damage area. Maybe I should splint everytime I go to avoid getting the pouch full?!

I had taken my usual cascara, licorice mix and psyllium the night before. It seems like I will have to try other forms like milk of magnesia and others mentioned on site so I don't get too tolerant of the mix I am taking. I am a little jealous still of women on this site who can go without taking the herbs. I think my bowel has lost its urge without the help of herbs however when the proplapse started the bowel had stopped working anyway which was 2 months ago. I was so sad yesterday as I tried going off the herbs but the bowel felt redundant. It is really scary for me and I am trying do all the exercises and posture even though hard with work pressures and having to drive to different jobs during the day so sitting a lot and being a teacher quite stressful at times.
Thank - you for replying it is good for me to hear from others. I only one women who has had a prolapse and she went down the surgery approach and recommended it to me even though later I found out that she has had it done twice as it came back.

All my friends are trying to get me to have surgery even though I try to explain the risks and the lack of positivity from women on the web pain worse than hysterectomy for bowel rectocele correction.

So it is a life line for me to get on wholewomen like a small ray of hope in an abyss.

Just my two sense worth here, don't know if I'm right or wrong. I have found that I don't need added fiber. What I did need was IRON. If I take my iron I go faithfully everyday, its a non issue. If I don't take it I don't go.
Is there a possibility that your iron could be low?

Hope it gets better for you!
