Cystocele

Body:

I have just been diagnosed with a cystoceleand it has come as a complete shock. I am currently exercising on a daily basis and I have order some vaginal cones to strengthen the pelvic floor. Does anyone know if this will help. Also is sex still possible as I was too embarrassed to asked the doctor. I am 55 years old and the problem was caused by heavy lifting and a weak pelvic floor.

Anne

Hi Anne,

It’s truly not about the pelvic “floor”, which offers absolutely no resistance to large bm’s, large-headed offspring, or prolapsed organs. Ordinary lifting is not a problem for women either, because in normal anatomy strong increases in intraabdominal pressure create an even tighter locking mechanism. The issue is your bladder has lost its original support structure, which consists of your entire musculoskeletal system and your pelvic connective tissue. Change your posture now and your symptoms will probably stabilize. Read through the FAQ's on the home page, which are slightly out of order because my web developer is working on them adding another illustration.

Wishing you well,

Christine
