Pain creams?

Body:

Hi,
With cystocele, rectocele, interstitial cysitis and vulvodynia I spend many days feeling useless. My question is: With a bladder dropped to vaginal opening and a rectocele (with uneven pointed edge) stabbing the tender tender tender (!!) outer lining of the bladderI spend many many hours on ice. Does anyone know of any creams (or other) that can be applied to lessen the intense stabbing pain where the two meet at the vaginal opening?
I will admit that I feel little joy in my life and little hope. Info on local pain relief possibilities appreciated.
Entering a new regime of Christine's exercises.
Thanks,
Daphne

Someone got me this after my son was born. It had a cooling feeling so it soothed the pain down there. Here's a link for it.... I recently bought the baby rash ointment for a yeast infection that was starting and it helped. http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/postpartum-recovery/mama-bottom-balm.html

Love this site and the ingredient list! Just might have to get me some of this stuff! I don't have Daphne's issues, but I do use a little baby rash cream now and again. This looks nice. - Surviving

Hellooo and thank you so much for responding. I do use Weleda baby cream and it is excellent for moisture but doesn't help with pain. I'll keep looking and post what I find.

aloe gel is a topical analgesic and very soothing...I've used it to sooth hemorrhoids. And now with the rectocele pain, I intend to try it for that. Thanks for reminding me. I also get great relief with epsom salt sitz baths.

Hellooo,
Thank you for recommending aloe gel. I had read about that and then forgot to try it. I will be trying it today. Also, will be buying red clover pills and magnesium for the other issues. What a time this is. I'm not exactly excited to be at the leading edge of what, I'm sure, will become universal ways of successfully living with and possibly preventing these women's issues yet am grateful for all the help that is available through this site. (You know....I'd rather be somewhere else!!) Good thoughts to you.

Where do I find the 'ingredient list" you mention?!!
Thanks, Daph

Hi Daphne. Are you talking about the ingredient list that I mentioned in my post up above? Mom30 posted a link to a website selling "Mama Bottom Balm" and I was checking it out. The ingredients in their products are posted on the site. - Surviving

Having suffered with vulvodynia for years I sympathize with you. I was prescribed some 2% lignocaine local anaesthetic gel, which helped when the pain was really bad. But the breakthrough for me was when my specialist prescribed a stronger ointment 5% lidocaine if I can remember correctly. I was to roll cotton wool balls in the local and then place then at the entrance of the vagina over night for six weeks.
Doing this apparently changes the pain pathways to the nerves, and for me was fantastic. This was over a year ago and now I hardly ever get any pain from vulvodynia at all.
Perhaps you could look into something like this? Good luck and hope this helps.

duplicate post.

Thanks Surviving,
I found the site.

Hi Kazatti!
Thank you so much. I have experimented with cortisone cream and that sort of worked. Then a few days ago I started using apple cider vinegar 3-4 times, wiping the outer vaginal area front to back, then following that with a small amount of castor oil. I think I'm seeing a difference.
I will ask my md for some 5% lidocaine. I suppose that 'cotton wool' is the same thing as a cotton ball?
The vulvodynia pain can be so extreme, can't it? I'm really grateful for your insight. Daphne11

Vinegar sounds great! I shall have to try it if ever I have a flare up in future. Yes, cotton wool, cotton balls, same thing, very easy to do and well worth looking into. Yes, it can be a horrifying affliction but the hope is there that we can beat th!is thing :-) all the best to you

I've been using vinegar wipe followed by a small amount of castor oil applied to the outer vaginal area and I'm still seeing a difference in vulvodynia cramping. I'm going to do this for a month unless I run into some reason why not to do it. There is one area just outside the vaginal wall that I've been treating cortisone cream and with Esterace cream (2x weekly) but sometimes this seemed to make the cramping worse. So, I discontinued both of those in favor of cider vinegar and castor oil. Will post update in a few weeks.

Are you ladies aware of Christine's newest DVD, on vulva-vaginal health? - Surviving

Hi Everybody, It's me Heavenlyflower haven't been on the Forum for a while, do have a question will somebody tell me what vulvodynia is? I will wait for my answer.

I was wondering the same, so I googled it. It is referring to chronic pain syndrome that affects the vulvar area. It can occur without an indentifiable cause. Sounds pretty painful . If you wish more information just google vulvodynia.

Best wishes to you , Bay

Thank you bay for the info, I don't have vulvodynia, what I do have is drying of the Uterus, it is in one spot and it use to bleed alot but since I've been using coconut oil it's pretty well under control, after every time I use the toilet I rub the coconut oil on it and it keeps it moist, I find if I don't rub the coconut oil on it it get's pretty dry, I haven't looked at it but it does feel a bit dry and scaley , I think it's because my uterus is out more than it's in.
I use to have alot of itching and stinging in vulva and rectum area but I've been using A&D ointment the kind that you use on a baby and that also helps alot. I've also started using the wet wipes I find it doesn't irritate my rectum after a bowel movement in fact it's alot more soothing that the regular toilet paper and It doesn't leave alot of paper on my uterus.
Mahalo and much Aloha,

I'm so glad to hear that you have found solutions to your problems. I never realized how many problems can occur around our girlie parts. I would folow your post as I was having the same problem as you with bleeding, especially when paper would touch my uterus. It was pretty scary but knowing someone else was experiencing the same, helped me get through that particular time. My uterus still hangs out about half the time now, but things are a lot better then they were last year. I keep working on posture, then family crisis get in the way and I find myself having to start over. My goal is to have the the posture perfected without having to remind myself. It's hard to take care of others and be thinking of yourself too. But then I know if we don't take care of ourselves, we are not going to be much help to others when they need us.

Keep the ww posture and take good care of yourself.

Much love to the wonderful ladies out there who have helped us so much.

In an old post Louise mentions that she initially did pelvic exercises lying down, I'm assuming its not the conventional type. Does anyone know how these were done as it would be good to do.
Thanks.

Hi Shazzy, is this post of yours, that mentions me, related to vulvodynia, or is it a new subject? Can you please elaborate a bit more on what you are asking me?

Louise

Hi Louise, I've searched and cannot find the thread again -its not the vulvodynia post. It was a very old post written in previous years, where you state that initially you were only able to do kegels lying down. I assumed it was because you weren't comfortable or well enough to start the exercises standing.
My question is: are there any pelvic exercises that one can do lying down ? I suffer with CFS and I sometimes find it difficult doing exercises or exerting myself. This does vary on a daily basis, if there are exercises which I can do lying down on my 'off' days, I would love to hear about them.
Many thanks.

Hi Shazzy - The 3rd Wheel DVD has a series of exercises done lying down - especially targeting the abs. If you are looking for something less strenuous, try First Aid for Prolapse for Elders. - Surviving

I think it might have been that when I was lying down I was completely relaxed, so it was easier to identify muscles. When you do Kegels sitting you are concentrating on your sitting balance, as well as the pelvic floor. In WW sitting posture you won't be able to get the muscles to contract much, because they are stretched quite tight, because the pelvic outlet is larger, like putting the same drum skin on a larger drum. They don't have as much give. Once I figured out the sensation of contracting them I could do them in any position. Now I don't bother at all.
