Posture advice?

Body:

I was talking to my mother about the posture as well as showing her a few days ago. I tried to do my best posture pose and she said it looks like I am leaning forward a bit. I was wondering what some tricks were that people use to know if they are doing the posture right? Things such as, "I think of lifting my chest" or "I think of sticking my bum out a little bit. I can usually feel the pressure/absence of pressure on my organs depending on what position I am in. What is the posture supposed to feel like when it is done perfectly? Do you kind of stick your bum out a bit to enhance the lumbar curvature? Do you lift your chest and tuck your chin, or is it not so much tucking your chin and more of a 'think tall' type of thing?
I would appreciate some insights, thank you for reading :)

It is a think tall thing for me, and lifting my chest far enough to feel my rectus abdominus muscles tightening a little, but leaving my belly relaxed. This creates the lumbar curve shape and it will move my upper torso back slightly. The pelvis will tilt to accommodate it, balanced by the shape of my belly. There is no need to stick my butt out or lift my tail bone. Then it is a matter of fine tuning your chin area, your knees and foot placement, and make sure that you are relaxed.

Yes, your Majesty. That's how I do it. Now I am off to gaze down my nose at my minions far below.

When I was first learning posture, I concentrated on two things. I would remind myself to relax the belly, and then, out of fear of looking pregnant and floppy I would remember to keep my chest pulled up. I have fine-tuned it over the years, but these were the key elements for me. I don't think anyone would have told me that I appeared to be leaning forward, so you might want to look into why you are appearing that way. After you have been doing posture for awhille, there is definitely a new feeling as your torso settles into its correct position over the hips. You will get there, and when you do, you will know it! - Surviving

Thank you for your comments! Sometimes I just wish I had a little red light that lights up when I am doing the posture right ;)

You can buy 'posture beads' which have a heavy, flat bead that hangs down your back, counterweighted by the beads at the front. You can feel it bouncing against your spine when in posture, but it falls to one side if you slouch. It's not a little light, but it might help.

Thanks, louiseds! I actually have seen those before, and I think I figured out what I was doing. I think I was thinking about the lumbar curve a little too much, and in doing so I stick out my bum a little when I walk, so it looks like I am leaning forward a bit. Those posture beads do look helpful though!
