Urinary tract infections

Body:

Hi everyone,

Well, it's end of July and I just got over another UTI about 2 weeks ago. I used a different antibiotic this time to rid myself of the infection called Macrobid. It worked fine, but now two weeks later I'm feeling like.... one might be coming on again. I hate this! I was wondering if perhaps the sea sponges I am using could be the culprit. I keep them very clean with hydrogen peroxide rinsing and also using essential oils to clean them. However, since they are porrous I was thinking that the sponge could possibly be the problem with the recurring infections. Has anyone else had this experience with the sponges? I have a cystocele which feels so much more comfortable using the sponges when I'm on my feet a lot. Thanks for whoever wants to chime in!! Be well everyone, April

Oh April,

Remember when I said I’d post your essential oil idea in the tips section? I decided not to when you began to post about the infections. Yikes Yikes Yikes!!! I’d stop using the sponges immediately!! It may be that you just can’t sterilize them enough with anything. It may also be that you could buy a new set of sponges once you get the infections under control and soak them thoroughly and only in HP. We know they are used by young women all the time for menstruation. It would be great if they could eventually work for you again, but I’d say you’d better just throw them away for at least a few months.

Hugs,

Christine

Oh thanks Christine for your quick response~

It's so good to hear from you! You know, I had this sinking feeling that they might be causing me these troubles... Perhaps during menstruation there's enough fluid & stuff in there to protect against infection. Sort of like a coating...But, who knows? I use them during my cycle too without incident, but lately I've noticed after my cycle is when the troubles seem to begin. I think I'll take your advice for now and cool it with the sponges. I plan on getting a urine culture done tomorrow anyway to see what "brand" of infection I have. I really wanted the sponges to work, because they did provide some comfort and feeling of "normalness"...if you know what I mean! But then again, it could just be that you can't really clean them thoroughly with anything. Well, thanks so much for being there for me. I'd say once I stay off the sponges for a while I'll know for sure if they were truly the cause or not of my repeat infections. Ya know? I truly wish they would work though because like I said they did create a level of comfort for me and could help others to feel "normal" too! Hope all is well with you! Take good care, April
