New to this site, severe uterine prolapse

Body:

Hi everyone, I am glad to have found this site. I am 27 years old and gave birth to my 3rd son in under 4 years this past April. My first baby was 9 lbs. 5 oz. and the next two were 7 lbs. I suffer from severe uterine prolapse and don't know what I should do about it. My OB-GYN said I will need a hysterectomy but I want to avoid that at all costs. I would also like one more baby within a couple of years but am really afraid of doing further damage to my body. I am most uncomfortable during my period. It makes me really nervous that I can see my insides hanging out of my body! Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Mandy

Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear that you have severe uterine prolapse. It can't be nice to see your cervix when you want it to be safely tucked up inside you. Nevertheless, it is where it shouldn't be, and there are some things you can do to make yourself more comfortable and probably get it back inside you for most of the time.

You can't cure prolapse, but you can manage it in a way that it will affect your life much less than it is now, and you may be able to get it to stay up higher inside you. Many women have found that, after having their pelvic organs really low, we can use postural changes, seating changes, dietary changes, selective use of exercise and some simple clothing redesigns, to take the pressure off the pelvic organs, and enable them to sit over the pubic bone during normal stance and motion. The changes we have made have been beneficial to health in other ways as well.

You can find out about some of the changes you can make by visiting www.wholewoman.com, and linking to FAQ's, where there is a lot of information to get you started on your new knowledge. You will probably find that you notice that you are feeling better within a few days of starting with the amended posture, which may be enough to get you feeling more positive about the future.

Keep calling back with questions, and tell us about your progress, or even if you are feeling disappointed about lack of progress. YOu are in good company here, and will always find encouragement. There are many women who have trodden this road before you. Prolapse is certainly not the end of the world, nor the end of normal life. Hopefully you will be back to some semblance of normal activities pretty soon. Be prepared to work hard at changes in the way you do things, and be prepared for the odd setback, but bit by bit I am sure you will start to feel better, and you body will become a bit more cooperative.

Take care

Louise

Congratulations on the birth of your 3rd son! You have found your way to a good place. Here you will find lots of information about your condition and many women who will share their experiences and advice - and provide support when you need it. The best place to start is on the homepage for this site. Read through the FAQ section (as you click on the questions, the answers appear on screen) and read Christine's blogs, also use the search to find the thread titled "WHOLE WOMAN FIRE BREATHING". Christine has also published a helpful book, and although the book is out of print, you can still purchase it new or used through Amazon.com or used from Half.com The title is: "Saving the Whole Woman" by Christine Ann Kent. ISBN: 0970144008 A new edition is in the works (hopefully coming out in the new year).
I wish you all the best (-:
