periods and exercise

Body:

Hello! I've searched the forums, and can't find an answer for this, so here goes: In the Firebreathing post, as well as in the First Aid for Prolapse video, there is the caution of "do not do these exercises while pregnant or menstruating." I'm not concerned at this time about the pregnancy part, but am very curious as to why they shouldn't be done while menstruating. I'm having my first period since prolapse, and just wondering if I should do nothing with the exception of walking until it's gone. The exercises seem gentle to me, and I had always found those types of exercise to be helpful in releiving monthly discomforts - now I'm not sure what to do. Just curious why they would be bad. Thanks - Glor

the WWFB doesn't seem gentle to me at all. not that it is uncomfortable in any way, but I can feel things inside shifting significantly.

my guess is that you don't want menstrual blood flowing the wrong way.

another thought, since starting this work I've grown much more respectful of my uterus. when I'm menstruating I like to let my uterus be and do its thing.

Hi Granolamom and all,

I was wondering the same thing. I notice I get bachaches and sciatic pain down my legs 10 days before my period. This time everything looked and feels very low. I didn't want to elevate my butt so things are flowing the wrong way but I am sure uncomfortable.

I'm always glad to read your posts Granola mom. I'm almost 10m months postprolapse. I have good days and bad. Thanks for sharing your experiences. It has helped me get thru this. :)

Btw, congrats on the baby news! Enjoy every moment of carrying that precious one.

just want to clarify: I have NO idea if my thought about blood flowing the wrong way is accurate!
also I think there may be a difference btw elevating your bottom and WWFB, the fire breathing, to me, feels like everything -uterus included- is contracting and moving up. so I don't think I'd want to do that to my uterus while its shedding & expelling its lining. seems too active. I dunno. I hope Christine will have a moment to clarify why we shouldn't do certain ex's while menstruating. I'm just guessing here.

Hi Christine

I am just wondering how you developed firebreathing? does it come from another culture, or did you just figure it out on the basis of how the different bits of the body work together in different positions?

Cheers

Louise
