Persistent Infection

Body:

I am new. I experienced uterine prolapse last November, 2014.
My OB/GYN at that time indicated there was "nothing to do unless I kept getting infections and/or I started losing urine control." Meanwhile - I have burned the internet up looking for options. I found one in the book "Saving The Whole Woman."

My question. Shortly after my uterine prolapse I came down with a nasty urinary track infection that was NOT detected until February!! By that time I was dizzy, forgetful to the point my GP thought I was having mini-strokes and/or dementia! My internist found the problem. Nasty Strep Group B infection.

Keep in mind - in my 66 years I have had maybe 3 urinary infections my entire life? I had no signs/symptoms with this one.

I was put on a 2 week antibiotic. Waited for 2 additional weeks - took another test - Infection is still there.
Just finished another 10 days of a powerful antibiotic. I will now wait 2 weeks to be tested again.

Is this common? Infections like this? Is this what my OB/GYN was warning me about..."nothing to do unless I keep getting infections." Not sure what to do if that test comes back positive again? I am working on maintaining my uterus (via exercises, posture, etc) but how long can one entertain infections?? Particularly when I have no symptoms unless they reach the point of MONTHS!!!

Hi Agwedd55,
The symptoms you describe are not unusual with urinary tract infections, especially as we get older. I saw that all the time when I worked in the nursing homes.

Completely emptying your bladder is what is going help prevent future bladder infections. Christine talks about this in her book Saving the Whole Woman. You need to to either lean forward slightly off the toilet seat which gets you in better position for complete emptying, or go on all fours in the shower or over a basin.
Do you have Christine's book? It would be a great investment that will let you know what your body is actually going through and what you can do about it to make it better, and help you manage your prolapse.

Oops, I see in your other post that you do have the book. Go to the self care section that starts on page 119. Here you will see pictures of emptying bladder and other important information.

I think folks think I'm cuckoo, but pumping works great for me to empty my bladder...I used it when I had uterine prolapse, and then, after hysterectomy, bladder prolapse. I take some toilet paper, and after my urine stream stops, I press it on my clitoris, It releases a big stream of urine. I do it 2 or 3 times until each new stream stops. I have been doing this for years...it works great. Does anyone else do it? I can't believe I'm the only one it would work for.

Try it, you'll like it! LOL.

I WAS USING A PESSARY AND I KEPT GETING INFECTIONS, AFTER I STOPPED USING THE PESSARY IT WENT AWAY.
