Cystocele - Frustrated

Body:

Hoping to get some advice.

I am 37, two kids and I recently discovered a bulge in my vaginal opening, I had no symptoms prior. I was just checking things and noticed it. I sort of freaked out and then it seemed almost immediately it was very noticeable. I saw my GYN right away and she diagnosed me with a cystocele. She was very nonchalant about it and said a lot of woman have this and in her words "I would not worry about it". Well that was a couple days ago and I am having lots of pressure on my bladder and urethra. It feels like my urethra is pushed out more, like everything is more opened up. There is more wetness and I can feel my underwear touching things now, it is irritating me. I am also near the start of my period so that could be a reason for more pressure but have never felt this before. She did also did a urine test and all came back ok. This pressure is really bothering me. I also feel achy in my pelvic region in general, sort of like the ligament pain I had when I was pregant. I am contemplating seeing a Urogynecologist to get their opinion of what is going on, but it seems like they just want to do surgery on people and that would be the last thing I would want. I am frustrated because my GYN acted like it was no big deal but it is really bothering me. How can this be right? I also have noticed the last few times my husband and I were intimate that the area of my urethra/clitoris did not feel the same or as good as it did as it has in the past. Again, it feels like my labia and everything is protruding out more. Not sure what to do. Perhaps my GYN misdiagnosed how bad this was?? I should also mentioned I have had issues with constipation over the last 6 months or so and lately have felt some rectal pressure, but my Dr said it is my bladder, not rectum. Perhaps the constipation, period and cystocele is causing all this discomfort? Would it be a bad idea to get a second opinion from UROGYN?

Appreciate any advice. This website has been very informative to me lately. Thank you!

I wrote out a list of practices that I have been finding most helpful here: http://www.wholewoman.com/forum/node/6992

I recognize all of your symptoms, from the sensations to the sex feelings.

You could get a second opinion from a urogyn if you want, but it is likely that you would get one of two responses: 1)the same one, or 2)we can fix that! (surgically.)
Neither of those would be helpful.

The biggest thing that might be exacerbating things for you is constipation. I would get some Magnesium into my life, if I were you. I find the fizzy drink form, Calm, to work better than pills. I would also give up refined foods of every type. That's a hard one for most people, I know. At least try the Calm if constipation is an ongoing issue.

But also, read here about general pop management. I've summarized (in the link, above,) the ones that have gotten me back to relatively normal, and it's a wonderful thing.

Thank you Emmline. Well, I actually finally had a successful bowel movement (sorry TMI) and I feel a lot better! Things don't feel nearly as strange or painful as they did earlier. Perhaps that was causing a lot of my discomfort. I have been doing a low carb/no sugar diet and I think eating a lot of protein and maybe not enough veggies made me more constipated. :-/ So I will be sure to eat more veggies and take your advice on the magnesium. I was planning to do an epsom salt bath tonight because that has a lot of magnesium. Hope that helps! I do need to lose some weight and i'm hoping taking some extra pounds off around my belly will help the cystocele not be so noticeable. So strange to me that I had never noticed if before and after I see it, BOOM I feel all this stuff.

Weight loss doesn't really affect prolapse. It can affect it negatively if lost too fast though. But, generally, women of all sizes pretty much experience it similarly. Posture is what helps prolapse.
