reclaimed the floor

Body:

Hi I am new here. Have just finished reading the book. I have a uterine prolapse probably caused as a result of various birth traumas. I do not have any issues with my bladder and only very slight bowel problems. One of the main things that I have so far got from the book is that I am back to sitting on the floor cross legged just like I did when I was young (I am now in my 65th year). This probably is what kept me from only experiencing such a bad prolapse until now.

I live in the UK where thankfully surgery is seldom the first line in helping with prolapse - actually lucky if any help forthcoming.

Questions at the moment are maybe simple - could the reason for the prolapse be that I am now losing weight? In the last year I have lost 13 kg (just of 28 pounds) - I have another 12 kg to go).

After getting rather frightened when it happened I stopped doing anything - but like in the book Christine likes to garden, so do I - we grow as much of our own food as we can so I have decided to take no notice of not lifting etc, and have found that nothing is getting any worse - in fact with going back to my old hippy ways it seems to be improving.

I am sure there will be many more questions with time - and reading through other peoples experiences is very helpful.

Hi cosmic and welcome. It sounds to me like you are off to a fine start. You will find that you can do just about anything with prolapse, once you have learned the true story of pelvic organ support, and can listen to what your body is saying as you move throughout your day, letting your symptoms and the principles of posture guide you.

It's somewhat possible that your weight loss might indeed have contributed to the appearance of symptoms now. But even if that is the case, it is probably a temporary situation, to which your body will adjust over time as you work to reposition the uterus. You seem to have a good understanding of things already......many women will assume that being overweight worsens prolapse and think that they should try to shed as much weight as possible, as fast as possible. But such is not the case.

Do look into learning firebreathing soon. I worked only with the book for the first year, and it was my desire to see firebreathing in action that prompted me to start building my DVD collection. Uterine prolapse does need some additional tools besides posture and the exercises. Over time you should be able to keep the cervix farther and farther away from the opening, and for longer.

The floor sitting is great. If you can do it while keeping a strong lumbar curvature, then you have already mastered one of the most valuable tools for getting on with your life! Keep us posted and ask anything....we have a great community here. - Surviving

Thank you Surviving.

The weight loss is being done very sustainably slowly by changing the way I eat - back again to the way I used to be when young - fast days (5:2) - remembering that humans did not used to eat well every day of the week, nor did we use to necessarily eat three meals a day. This new way of eating seems to be exactly what my body likes - I have far more energy then I used to have - again just like it was when I was young. I am not a vegetarian , but I do cook from scratch - no ready meals and more vegetables than anything else mainly from my garden) I also make all my own bread.

Now to teach myself firebreathing :)

thank you again

I'm with you Cosmic on the eating changes. I am almost 66 and have lost about the same amount of weight over the last year, due to healthy changes in diet, and occasional fasting too. I don't think it has affected my prolapse much, probably because I've been doing the WW work going on 6 years. You will be a great success with this. - Surviving
