Plagued by air bubbles

Body:

Glad to find this forum and just wanted to ask some questions. I am 32, developed grade 2 cystocele after second baby. I began to see a physio therapist at 9 months postpartum. Have seen her about 7 months now. There was quite a bit of kegeling but she at least knew enough to advise me (although somewhat vaguely) on the importance of posture and diet.

I have had a good deal of improvement in my symptoms (which were nothing functional, by sheer grace, just the feeling of something in my vagina and a whole lot of emotional baggage to go along with it).

However over the past month I have been plagued by air bubbles and wet noises (not your classic fart noises jus kind of the sound of the vagina opening). As I am moving around during the day I feel my labia are constantly opening...I hear a sort of wet sound...and letting in air....this is happening 50-60 times per day....whenever I move almost! If I side step, go up stairs, bend over, crouch down...I'm struggling with it a lot....I'm so self conscious that someone will hear it and be grossed out....and I'm wondering why it is happening now when my prolapse itself seems to be better...any thoughts? Any coping strategies?

I have not yet purchased any material from WW...although I plan to soon. I had mentioned this problem to my physio at last appt and she looked stunned.....which didnt help my preexisting feeling of freakishness! It was a relief to hear Christine in her free video talking about the vagina normally being a flat airless space......this explains a lot!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Lemontree and welcome. If you do a search on air bubbles, you will find quite a lot of posts. It's a common symptom, and you are correct, the WW work aims to get those organs out of the vaginal space so the vagina can return to its normal flattened, airless shape. Our organs are constantly on the move as we go throughout our day. What you are describing seems extreme to you, probably not noticeable to others, to the extent you might think.

Most physio therapists in this area subscribe to a posture that is sometimes described as "neutral" spine and pelvis, but please understand, that is NOT the return to natural human posture that Christine teaches - which is the real source of pelvic organ support. The organs are meant to be held forward over the pubic bones, in the hollow of the relaxed lower belly, held in place there by gravity and proper breathing. Your PT is not teaching you this.

So....Welcome to Whole Woman, it has changed many lives. It's not a quick fix, because there isn't one; it is better described as a new way of life! - Surviving

Hi, Yes it's pretty common. One of the symptoms of pop perhaps? Don't worry about it. It's probably one of those things that improves when you make the WW work part of your daily life. It may be one of those things that indicates improvements (& possibly set backs). I have a few issues that let me know when my symptoms are coming back, (usually after doing things that are contra-indicated), or when they're getting better.

I'm not surprised your pt was a bit surprised. I mean - who talks about these things!! Hardly anyone talks about pelvic organ prolapse, let alone air bubbles:)

Good luck - & wishing you all the best with the marvellous, life changing, life enhancing work.
Love & hugs, wholewomanuk

Thank you, ladies. Very glad to find a place where people do talk about these things, haha! I think I will start with First Aid for Prolapse. Looking forward to learning more.
